Funded comfortably, with more than three weeks to go! Any thoughts on extras, Ed? I know people like to have a case for their movies instead of just a paper sleeve. What's the funding needed for that?

I always do a case and cover art but I always offer the LEAST just in case the projects just barely makes it.

Talking with Rob Stone at LOC about maybe adding a short film.... We shall see.

Somehow I think David would be happy to have been wrong on this. Of course, when I talked to him about it, that was long before Kickstarter was a thing, so it wouldn't have worked back then.

Going to throw my hat where my mouth is or was it put my money in the ring? Either way I plan on pledging later tonight. That should get you closer to doing a short. Any ideas on what you want to do? Either way I'd update the KS to reflect that in case people find it from elsewhere.

First there was Rifftrax's Kickstarter, then Wonder 3's manga gets translated and now this so basically I feel like I've done my bit for the smaller groups out there. The bonus is I get more than a flimsy tote bag!

I'm in for another round as well, Ed!

Hopefully we'll be able to add the short, too.

When I woke this morning and checked, the total had topped the number needed to add the short.
Ed, has anyone posted the existence of this project elsewhere?

My only real access is via a few Facebook pages. I've noted that if I post a Kickstarter on some other sites, they delete it as a sales thing. I really don't know where it has shown up (or not shown up). But yes, it has topped the $2,500 mark.....

Over a hundred backers! Still, you can make Ed's work harder and order a copy for yourself.

If the thought of doing something for film preservation doesn't work, and the thought of owning one's own copy of a rare title doesn't work, maybe malice will!

Have just about set a deal to add a rare short film to the April Folly DVD for Kickstarter backers. It's a Billie Rhodes comedy from 1917 entitled A Two Cylinder Courtship. I'm excited about it because I've only seen one of her films on YT.

Will A Two Cylinder Courtship be a Library of Congress transfer also? I have an old Blackhawk Films 16mm print of this short.

the still are interesting. The top one shows Marion Davies and J. Herbert Frank (the villain); the second shows Davies with Conway Tearle (the hero), but there are no kids in the copy I have. It seems unlikely they are in the missing first reel.

Below is Cynthia Stokley's complete script for this film. Even though this version is in Portuguese, believe me, this accurate (I used a similar script from this same magazine in order to reconstruct the lost scenes for ALL DOLLED UP). There should be a colorized image of Marion Davies in either a previous or subsequent magazine that is also available online for free as all of these things I have been bringing.

Ed, first of all thanks so much for all your efforts in getting these Marion Davies films on to DVD via Kickstater. It's much appreciated.

Any chance of you providing a downlad link for the cover art for those of us outside the USA who get the DVDs in a slip case and without a cover?

Yes I can. I have for past campaigns. I can always send a jpeg or PDF directly to you but you might need to resize it for printing. Thanks.

The total has passed $3000, but that's no reason for you not to kick in. Even if it's not enough money to get a copy yourself, wouldn't you like it if the next time you hear "Some one should do something!" You can can say "Well, I've done something"?

Here's a screen cap from the short film I'm adding to the DVD. It's A Two Cylinder Courtship (1917) starring Billie Rhodes and Jay Belasco. I've ID'd Gino Corrado as the minister at right. He was using the name Eugene Corey in early silents. Story in the trades tells us that director Scott Sidney was injured during one of the film's explosions and "lost" his mustache.

Ed,
Coming late to the party, but Marion's older sister Reine made two films. LOC has two reels (out of five) of her 1915 film SUNDAY, directed by Reine's ex-husband George Lederer and co-starring Montagu Love and Charles Trowbridge. An incomplete Reine Davies film to accompany an incomplete Marion Davies film. Certainly if it is too late for this project, it might compliment a future Marion kickstarter.
