You all do know NAPOLEON isn't the only orchestra plus organ with silent film show in upcoming weeks. For instance, I'm performing at the organ together with with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra for the 1920 Douglas Fairbanks silent film adventure THE MARK OF ZORRO on April 19 & 20 in Indianapolis at the local art museum, and then over to the grand Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ in Buffalo for accompanying Lon Chaney in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA playing the 1925 original score by G. Hinrichs and M. Winkler at Shea's Buffalo movie palace together with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday, April 22. The grand movie palace experience with silent films and live music is back . . . thank you, THE ARTIST, for winning the Oscar and reviving our specialist interest for the general public! I was astonished yesterday to see an advertisement for Napoleon at a BART station on the crawling text sign between train announcements. It is indeed THE year for silent film!

Attention RATKINS, LZCUTTER, CLAUS H., and all other N-Villains attending the first weekend of Napoleon. A friend from Oakland (I'm from Chicago) recommends Luka's at 2221 Broadway in Oakland as a swell place to meet up that weekend. It's a block from the Paramount. I'm thinking Friday night around 8:30. I'm open to any and all alternative suggestions, but I thought I'd get the ball rolling here. Let's get together and hoist one to Abel Gance and one more to Kevin Brownlow. I'll be the guy in the Detroit Tigers baseball cap. Whaddya say. Write back and say yes, no or with alternate ideas.

Bob,

I would love to meet up but I don't think I will get there til much later. Driving from LA on a Friday night is usually not a good combination for a speedy arrival. You never know though. Maybe a breakfast before the show?

I'm staying at the Washingtonian on Tenth and Broadway. Feel free to call. Not opposed to breakfast, but don't know the city and want to get to the Paramount a little early to get the lay of the land and check out the swag. After the movie (on Sat.) is also a possibility. We might need a drink by then. Any takers for for Friday night?

Bob,

8-8:30 on Friday at Luka's sounds good to me; this would be after-dinner drinks then?

That's just what I was thinking. If people want to eat, they certainly can, but I imagined this as drinks and movie talk. Everyone being on different travel schedules, appetites will probably vary, but I imagine we'll all be ready for a drink. I also don't plan on closing down any bars. I'm seeing a rather long film on Sat. I'm looking forward to meeting you folks.

Bob,

Now we just need to figure out how to find each other there, since I understand the place can be crowded.
We could of course just wear Napoleon hats, but...

Maybe just a PM with cell phone numbers might be helpful?

Claus,

I am having difficulty sending you a PM. Please send one to me and I will happily give you the info you request. I am a neophyte at texting so results are not guaranteed. I will be wearing a Detroit Tigers baseball cap, so that should help. I will try to buff up my 2st century texting skills before Friday. I'll try to get get there a bit early and, if all else fails, remember the Tigers cap. And please PM me and I will give you my cel numbers. Cheers!

hi -- I've just registered here as I find myself with an extra ticket for Saturday's screening. Would anyone here like to buy it? It's a pretty good seat in the orchestra -- row CC seat 126. http://www.paramounttheatre.com/seating/orchestra11.gif"

Update: A friend is taking the ticket. See you all soon!

Well,
For any last-minute arrivals to SF for the Sat/Sun screenings; if you want, come join Bob Furem, myself and who knows who else this Friday 23rd at Luka's bar in Oakland for drinks and film talk at around 8:00-8:30pm.

I am staying at the Whitcomb hotel, so if anyone else is there and wishes to connect, ask for Claus Harding.

Safe travels to everyone; see you (possibly) on the Bay.
Claus.

Looking forward to it!

You can keep up with the rehearsals of Napoléon on Carl Davis' excellent Napoleonic diaries.

Okay so I'll be able to attend the Napoleon screening on Sunday April 2.

The problem is, I'm currently in Los Angeles area and looking for a carpool if anybody is doing that.

I'm fairly young female 27 years old, film buff willing to pitch in for gas and room if there are other silent film fans carpooling up north next weekend.

I'm not sure what everyone's arrangement is already but I'm just looking to cut down the cost as much as possible and it's always funner to go with a group of others than by yourself I suppose.

Anybody feel free to PM me or email me @ mskillens@gmail.com" target="_blank

PS: NEVERMIND DISREGARD THE EMAIL, I THINK I MANAGED TO FIND A WAY OVER THERE NEXT WEEKEND, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Saw Napoleon yesterday (Saturday) and it was breathtaking, incredible and inspiring and probably more adjectives to come, I'm still in awe!

Carl Davis' score ROCKED!

Lynn,

That's great! Hope you will give us lots of details on both boards. This GIF was made by Christine a couple years back. It shows a still as far as I know lost sequence from the film.

Saw it Sat and Sun because I am a crazy person. Going home tomorrow. Will write more when I get my head back. I told Kevin Brownlow that I was back for a second view. His reply..."very impressive." My reply..."No, THIS is impressive." Then he asked for my name. Maybe he'll give me a job.

Met up with ClausH who is a swell guy. Sorry I missed the rest of you.
Carl Davis for president...or at least Secretary of Music.

Note to all second weekenders: they are serious about 1:30 start time.

Cheers, y'all. I'm going to bed.
