Analog Cable Adapters

PostSat Nov 12, 2016 6:14 pm

The cable company in my area is moving toward eliminating
analog channel service. Does anyone here know if the adapters
they are offering work with recording devices (DVD recorders
or VCRs) that have analog tuners? I would like to be able to
keep the recording setups I have where I can record one
program while watching another without going to the
additional expense of getting new cable boxes with DVRs.
Has anyone tried to get more than one of the adapters from
a cable company? I would also like to try one on a bedroom
TV with an analog tuner.

If you are going thru a cable set top box, you should see no change.

If you have the cable connected directly to a digital (flat screen) television, you will probably not see any change.

If you have the cable connected directly to an analog (NTSC) television, you will need a cable box or a converter.

Cable providers dropping analog refers to the signal from the cable company's office to your home and does not have any effect for the signal from the cable box to your television. If you have a standard definition cable box, you may have to exchange it for an HD cable box, but these boxes have analog standard definition outputs in addition to HDMI.

Wonder if you didn't google to the wrong forum... The technical level here is generally not very high, or let's just say I wouldn't consider it a particular selling point.
