16mm projector - need help

PostFri Mar 07, 2008 2:14 pm

I am interested in getting a 16mm projector. I found this listing on Craigs List and wondered if it is any good:

If not, can anyone reccommend a good, sound 16mm projector?

Thanks!

There has been a bunch of these "new" machines popping up lately. If you want to see what they look like, here is an eBay auction for one...

Here are some discussions about them at 16mmfilmtalk.com. The seller is probably different though for this Craigslist item.

The problem with these is that they are auth-threaders. If you are the type that splices leader onto all of your films, and you don't mind if it occasionally gets torn up, then this projector is OK.

Personally, I have an ELMO 16CL. It is very easy on film, and it has two different light levels. It will not project backwards though or freeze-frame, but I don't need that. Also, you must move a belt on the projector to switch from 18 fps to 24 fps, so that is a pain.

Anyway, if the price is right it is probably a good deal, especially if you don't use it very often.

I'm using a BAUER P6 for my 16mm-movies. This projector didn't made any problem until now and is easy to handle. The speed changes are easy to switch.

Watch out for what you get from eBay seller "kinemaman". The last two or things I got from them were not as described. I had even asked them questions before bidding.

Without going into detail I took them off of my eBay notifications list.
