Mainly known for his stage work, McCowen appeared in quite a few films, perhaps most memorably as the Inspector in Hitchcock's FRENZY, suffering from his wife's gourmet cooking.

Also good in Stevie with Glenda Jackson, a film I'm especially fond of.

And - "Travels With My Aunt" (1972) with Dame Maggie Smith - one of my favourites.

Just watched him in "Victoria and Albert" a few nights ago. He played Sir Robert Peel. Always enjoyed seeing him. May I add, I don't think his IMDb credits are complete by any means when it comes to the television he did.

And a hit over several years on at least two continents with his one-man ST. MARK'S GOSPEL, which I had the pleasure of seeing.

Solid Character Man.
