I recently purchased the attached piece of art by Charles Sheldon.

Sheldon was well known for his covers of early film magazines like Photoplay and Screenland. You can see examples of his work here:

This piece is probably a cover piece as well, but I am unable to identify the actress.

Can anyone here offer some ideas of who it may be? I would love to track down the published magazine, but not having any luck so far.

Some of Sheldon's drawings hardly look like the actual person, however. Who would have guessed this is a drawing of Joan Crawford on the December 1927 cover of Photoplay? Notice the partially cut-off name "--an ---wford" on the left edge of the front cover.

The OP may want to contact the original seller of his drawing and try to trace the provenance of the photo.
