Would anyone know of any places a researcher can go in LA to conduct research on silent film stars. Besides the Margaret Herrick Library and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Thank you.

You find information in surprising places sometimes--here are some of the places I've found good stuff:

LA Public LIbrary, Central
LA Public Library, Frances Howard Goldman, Hollywood Regional Library
UCLA Special Collections Library
USC Doheny Library
Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Library

LA County records are GOLD MINES of information.

LA County Superior Court Archives, downtown Los Angeles--records of criminal, civil, and probate cases
LA County Property Records archives, in darkest Norwalk--did your star own property?
LA County Registrar Recorder records, also in Norwalk--birth, death, and marriage records

I'm sure others will chime in with good locations.

USC and AFI also have special collections as well as Cinema Libraries. There is the WB Archive at USC, becoming a hassle to do business with. UC Santa Barbara and other universities also have special collections. You can check with the Online Archive of California, there could be other archives in the city or county with information on a particular star that is listed in their online finding aids. Some other local libraries have special collections departments, there are photo albums of the Hollywoodland development at the Thousand Oaks Library. The Mayme Clayton Archive might have materials regarding African American actors. The Autry Museum might have materials on silent western performers.
