NitrateVille Radio Episode 3: Nitrate Diva Nora Fiore on The TCM Classic Film Festival • Dennis Doros of Milestone Films on Pioneering Woman Director Lois Weber
(1:51) The TCM Classic Film Festival just took place in Los Angeles, and I talk to Nora Fiore, who runs the Nitrate Diva blog and @NitrateDiva twitter account, about what she saw there. Here's a clip from Lady in the Dark, which she saw (on nitrate) and talks about (sorry the preview image is so blurry, the clip is fine):
Here's her piece about Angela Allen, script supervisor on one of the all-time written-the-night-before movies, Beat the Devil.
She also talks about Howard Hughes' Cock of the Air—here's a very curious tale about it at NitrateVille by the late Bob Birchard.
(20:28) Then I talk about the leading woman director of the silent era, Lois Weber, with Dennis Doros of Milestone Films. Two of her films, Shoes and The Dumb Girl of Portici, are playing around the country now—here are Chicago listings; note who they found a quote from for What's Worth While?—and a full site for the retrospective is at Loisweber.net.
Here's Milestone's trailer for The Dumb Girl of Portici:
and here's a short film Eye Film Institut did on the restoration of Shoes:
