ZAZA with Gloria Swanson

PostWed Oct 15, 2014 8:37 am

I saw this wonderful film about 25 years ago at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC; they were having a Paramoung 75th anniversary and showed Paramount films for six months!

Haven't seen or heard of it since. Is there a copy out there somewhere on DVD?

Not sure about dvds, but this was shown at the Silent Movie Theater a few years ago as part of TST's silent film programming, we discussed it here:

It showed at MOMA this spring. Ben Model played for the presentation.

There is a DVD/Blu Ray scheduled for release this week. June, 6th. The piano score is by a Jeff Rapsis, who I'm not familiar with.

See Mike Gebert's review of the new Blu-ray at viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3022&start=450#p187589" target="_blank in the "Old Movies in HD" thread under the "Talking About Talkies" forum.

Hi! This is Jeff Rapsis, silent film accompanist and composer based in New Hampshire. Nice to meet you! Kino-Lorber's 'Zaza' disc is out today. It was a fun film to score. If you take the plunge and get the disc, hope it's to your liking!

On the equipment here, a wide-screen plasma, the Blu-ray fills the screen vertically with the TV set at 4:3. Black columns on the sides. Actually, it fills the screen vertically on all settings. I haven't fiddled with any player settings.

My big screen TV predates aspect ratios..... I'd guess it's 4:3

NO matter.... video quality looks greats and Jeff's score grabbed me right off!
