Upcoming Kickstarter for colorizing Charlie Chaplin mooovies

PostFri Mar 31, 2017 10:35 pm

I understand someone is starting a Kickstarter campaign this week to colorize the following Charlie Chaplin films. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. :D

The films are...

His Musical Career (1914)
The Rounders (1914)
A Jitney Elopement (1915)
Shanghaied (1915)
An April Fool (1917)

... and I am proud to say they are using my print of April Fool (1917) :D :D

I gotta say this is a great time to be a Chaplin fan!. :)

Is there a particular reason behind this project? To be honest, I really think Chaplin's films work just fine in B&W...

Ah. OK. Insofar as I read the titles listed - which I didn't do very carefully, to be honest - I guess I figured APRIL FOOL was a reissue title or something. Charley Chase made a short with that title, after all, right? I'll blame my lack of proper sleep, as usual. *Slightly embarrassed.*

Don't worry, if it's any consolation, they just found three different cuts of LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT.

Curiously, they were found in cans labeled "Hats Off."

...under a bunch of prints of a promotional film from the old Shoemakers of America:

"LIFE WITHOUT SOLE."

Does it restore my reputation here if I tell you all that I today happened upon a one-reel silent film at my local second-hand shop?
It's from 1914, he said....don't remember the exact title right now, but it's about a bandit of some kind....and a friend, or something....and a woman, I think....HER BANDIT'S FRIEND....or something like that....
Aw shucks, it's probably not important. I'll throw it to the worms.

(I know, one shall not kid about Holy stuff like this, and I usually boycott April's Fool (on the rare occasion that I don't totally forget about it until I'm made a Fool, that is), but.....what'e'heck!)
