The Arab 1924

PostFri Sep 15, 2017 12:23 pm

I have a friend who has a copy of this Novarro film, with Russian titles. H;es looking for someone to re-sequence the film, which he thinks is out of order.....

Any takers?

Let me guess: It's 45 minutes and missing the beginning and end?

I think it just repeats ... since there's no opening or closing sequences.... it's not worth working on

Just wait until somebody puts the movie online for free, in any version.

I would watch 45 minutes of a rare Rex Ingram film instead of the full
length of some features made recently.

Behind The Door (1919)

This Blu-ray disc contains the 45 minute version distributed in Russia.
Could the reason for missing footage in Russian prints be to change the
movies to fit Socialist agenda?

The Arab was one of 10 silent features repatriated to the LOC by Gosfilmofond in 2010 (https://www.loc.gov/item/prn-10-239/russia-presents-digital-copies-of-silent-films/2010-10-21/). The LOC copy is listed as complete, at 7 reels or 6,710 ft (http://memory.loc.gov/diglib/ihas/loc.mbrs.sfdb.721/default.html).

You mean communist agenda. But who knows, I haven't seen it, but it wouldn't at all surprise me.
After all, in soviet Russia, movie changes you. :)
