A Couple of Unknown Stills

PostMon Dec 11, 2017 2:51 pm

Here's a couple of unknown stills that I have had for a long time and have not been able to identify:

Image
This was from the personal collection of John Davidson (not Jon Davidson). That is Davidson in white.

This has "Norma Talmadge" written on the back. However, it looks like it is from the 1930s and 1940s and Miss Talmadge had already retired by then.

Any help is appreciated.

The bottom one looks like it's from THE DOVE.

The bottom photo is definitely from The Dove 1927.

This particular scene is not among the 4 reels that LOC has in their archives as I watched these reels in 6/17 in DC at LOC and this scene was not on the 4 reels.

Norma Talmadge (Delores) on left, Noah Beery (Don Jose Maria y Sandoval) on right, and Gilbert Roland (Johnny Powell) below tree branches. Unsure of the extras holding rifles and the crowd to the right.

Great photo, thanks for sharing.

Thanks to both of you! I suspected that Noah Beery was at right, but I wasn't sure.

As to the top film, how many movies had a scene in an alligator pit?

This is from the Siamese sequence of Cecil B. DeMille's FOOL'S PARADISE (1921). The fellow in white is actually Conrad Nagel, while Davidson (looking more full-figured than usual) is wearing sparkly royal robes. Below, from my collection, is another still from this sequence, which conveniently has a still code on it. (And coincidentally, I also have a folder of photographs and paperwork from John Davidson's personal collection!)

Thanks for the ID, Dr. Kiss! I do have a couple of other stills from that film, but they also have a still code.

I think some dealer broke it up and sold the collection on eBay.

Here is another unidentified Davidson film photo from the same batch that does not have a still code:
