Camels or Egypt

PostSat Jan 13, 2018 6:35 pm

I'm looking for silent film era scenes featuring Egypt or camels, etc. Any suggestions of film titles are greatly appreciated.

From The Manger to the Cross has scenes of the pyramids and the Sphinx.

Real Egypt, or faked?

The Sheik and Son of the Sheik with Rudy Valentino certainly have camels in them.

Yes, I was going to mention them once the original poster answered my question as to whether he wants the real Egypt or if a fake one is acceptable. The Sheik films use fake ones.

He hasn't responded to any follow-up posters, so I will move on from this thread.

There are Egyptian scenes in SOULS FOR SALE (TCM runs it now and then), including a segment in an Egyptian silent film theatre.

The White Sister (1923) has quite a few camels, and there's an interesting scene where Giovanni (Ronald Colman) is seen mounting one and riding off as he escapes his Arab captors.
The Four Feathers (1929) has many hundreds, if not over a thousand camels in the Arabian forces that are shown coming to attack the British. This was a Merian C. Cooper film and everything he did was larger than life.
The film shows an entire army riding in on camelback and the camels all dropping down on all fours to allow the riders to dismount and continue the fighting on foot. No acting here, these were the real thing.
