THE UNOFFICIAL SILENTS OFFLINE DEALS THREAD

PostWed Mar 07, 2018 7:08 pm

Walmart is currently offering "Sunrise"(1927) as a package containing both Blu-Ray and DVD for $7.88.

Apparently, only in stores. Walmart Online still lists it as $14.99.

It is in the front of the stores, near the checkout lanes, in a large Golden Oscars display with other 20th Century Fox titles such as the "Godfather" films, and "Al About Eve". I was gratified to see today at my local, while plenty of "Godfather" and "Godfather II"'s can be had, "Sunrise" was all sold out . I had noticed at least 6 or 7 less than two days ago.

Apart from "The Artist" six years ago, this is the only Silent I have ever seen on Walmart shelves.

I believe I saw Wings in a Wal-Mart, and All Quiet on the Western Front, which includes the silent cut of the film.

But not much beyond that, unless they happened to carry deluxe sets for The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur or The Wizard of Oz.

Not to put too fine a point on it, ... or as Noel Coward would say to you, "Don't quibble, Sybil!"

It seems I have missed that one, even though I have all the Films listed so far, I can quote what George Mallory used to say about climbing the Everest "because it's there". So when I see a Classic talkie or Silent Film I buy it because it's there, considering my budget allows to splurge, that is.

Saw 4 copies at another store, and snapped them up.

Good Easter presents.
