DVD - $18.43

Prices good until May 29, 2013

For now prices reduced further
DVD - $13.82
BluRay - $15.52
Must be a glitch, probably won't last long.

At these prices you can even ignore the creepy "Grandpa" segments that much more. :)

I don't know how long this has been going on for, but Amazon currently has the blu-ray of Buster Keaton's "Seven Chances" for a mere $7.98. If I didn't already have a copy, I'd be ordering one right now!

Amazon has The Big Parade on pre-order sale for $19.59. Their prices change all the time of course. The good thing about pre-ordering from them is that you get it at the lowest price between when you ordered and when it's released, so you don't have to wait on your order hoping the price will go down. I've even had it where they've refunded me a dollar or two on something because it went on sale *after* they shipped it.

Amazon just dropped the price to $6.98. If you're interested, you'd better grab it!

Curses! I missed it and had to pay $6.99! :-)

I already have it of course, but at the price of that extra penny, it makes a great gift. Now, why can't the Criterion Safety Last come down to that price?

Thanks for the updates. I ordered it at 6.99. I was going to order it earlier in the day, but it would have arrived on a day when, probably, no one is home (I'm traveling). So, I waited until tonight to order and saved almost another dollar!!

I am kicking myself for missing out on this deal! Congratulations to those who were able to grab it, though. :)

Barnes & Noble is having another 50% off sale on Criterion DVD and Blu-ray, both online and in stores! I don't know how long it'll go on for, but interestingly City Lights is available for pre-order at only $19.95 for the Blu-ray (I didn't think it would apply to pre-orders).

The sale is supposed to last through December 2, which is why the pre-orders which will be released before then are included.

Incidentally, B & N is also running their 50% off select Art House films, which includes Kino's blu-ray of Nosferatu.

It looks like the Criterion edition of The Phantom Carriage will be one of Amazon's lightning deals starting at 12:20pm PST today. I believe Barnes & Noble is still having its 50% off sale on Criterion titles, so it'll be interesting to see if Amazon matches or beats B&N's price.

A lot of one-star reviews for that set, due to poor packaging and defective discs. I bought one myself, but haven't watched the whole thing through to see if every disc plays. I should have another look at it on the weekend.

Sometimes cheap isn't always a bargain, like that heavily discounted Hitchcock set that came out via Fox/MGM, where nearly every disc was defective (possibly due to the too-tight packaging) where the majority of films would freeze up at the layer change.

For those who collect the American Treasures box sets (and know how expensive they get if you don't jump in on the price when they are cheap), Lost and Found: American Treasures from New Zealand Film Archives DVD for $15.95 + $2.99 (3 more left on eBay from Blowitoutahere)

Ditto the Marilyn Monroe collection. I was ecstatic to have virtually all of her major films and several of her minors in one set from a supposedly reputable DVD producer for only $25 at last year's Christmas sale. Then I played them and discovered at least 4 films were defective. Fortunately I still have my VHS copy of Some Like It Hot, as that was one of the defective films, but I had no backup copies for the other bum transfers.

The current 6-disc set of Chappelle's Show is a bargain at $25 too, but there are a lot of problems with it. HMV pulled out every copy they had in stock and opened each one in an attempt to find one without scratches and/or broken disc holders after I complained that the set I bought didn't even have one of the discs! They found a clean copy -- the very last one they had -- and I just finished watching it last night. (Very pleased to report that even the bonus material is captioned ... and with two entire discs of bonus materials, that's practically unprecedented!)

The TCM Garbo silents collection of three films is just $9 on amazon at the moment. I thought it had been deleted, but whether that's right or not, I'm not sire
