Oops, I misspoke, er mistyped. They have MadX4, but they were out of two other choices, Throne of Blood and Nashville.

That's weird, because I got THRONE OF BLOOD just fine on my order, but MAD...MAD WORLD was sold out already. Several of the others I got (in the first hour or so of the sale) have since sold out (e.g., TESS, FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT, THIEF, KING OF THE HILL).

Looks like LONESOME and VANYA ON 42nd STREET still have plenty left and THE GOLD RUSH is a top seller but not yet running low like MODERN TIMES, the silent Ozu, and several others. You've got until Wednesday noon Eastern, 9am Pacific to get your order in!

Seem to be lots of other related books on sale. I haven't been watching these prices, and camelcamelcamel isn't allowed to track Amazon's Kindle books prices for some reason, so I can't tell if these are routine prices or especially low ones...

I bought one, seems like a good deal. UPDATE: Bought another one.

Considering how rarely Criterion Collection titles go on sale in Canada, it was a pleasant surprise to find the new BD/DVD combo of The Freshman on sale at Amazon.ca for $24.99. Of course, if it was one cent more, you'd get free shipping, but there are other Crits on sale at the moment, including The Hidden Fortress and pre-orders of A Hard Day's Night, All That Heaven Allows and Picnic at Hanging Rock.

It's only a handful of Crit titles that are on sale at Amazon.ca, you might have to do a bit of hunting to find the rest of them.

Animated Soviet Propaganda: From the October Revolution to Perestroika (4 DVD Set)

Not a short-term sale, this Kino set seems to be simply not selling well (I wonder why? Not.)
Amazon says they have 4 sets at $22.99, 74% off.

Not an online deal but Walmart has Warner's new World War I Centennial Collection on sale for $19.99. It packages DVD versions of the recent restorations of The Big Parade and Wings, along with talkies The Dawn Patrol (1938 version) and Sgt. York. The packaging shows The Big Parade booklet, so it looks like they are clearing left over stock by packaging in a boxset. That sounds ominous for further restorations and releases of silents by major studios.

I picked up the WINGS restoration in a bargain bin at Barnes & Noble last year. I think that after all the hoopla the studio is just dumping the stock cheaply.

Walmart has WINGS bundled with three other films (one silent the other two sound) for a big discount.

It is a 100th anniversary of the First World War boxed set.

It's available through Walmart's site also. If your store doesn't have it:

Just to mention that I picked up the WWI collection at Walmart today with the intention of sharing it with someone who doesn't have a blu-ray player. It is a nice package, a "book" format with the DVDs sliding out of their slots (not on hubs). There are actually five discs, because Sergeant York has two discs. Quality photos and images of posters illustrate the insides. The "book" slides out of a cardboard case.

I haven't played them yet but I recommend it nevertheless.

I got a tweet about an ebook sale at Amazon, up to 85% off (for the next few days), which leads to this page:
http://www.amazon.com/b?ref_=tsm_1_tw_s ... 6180870011

I didn't find anything movie related, but there are two books on fashion, for those interested.
I don't know how well any images are duplicated in the ebooks:

Fashion in the Time of The Great Gatsby

The 1950s American Fashion
http://www.amazon.com/1950s-American-Fa ... 02&sr=1-37

The website DVDPlanet.com currently has a 10% coupon available until 11:59pm CST tonight (9/12). The code is 'TAKE10OFF' to be entered at checkout. Although it can be applied to anything, the recent Flicker Alley Chaplin and Mack Sennett Blu-rays are already at a competitive price, and the extra discount pushes it down further:

* Mack Sennett Collection: http://www.dvdplanet.com/buy/bluray/mack-sennett-collection-1_2775867 - $40.92 after discount.
* Chaplin's Mutual Comedies: http://www.dvdplanet.com/buy/bluray/chaplins-mutual-comedies_2776141 - $41.46 after discount.

Shipping is free for orders over $35. I've used DVDPlanet in the past and sometimes found them a little slow to ship items, but generally good.

All I see at that link are miscellaneous horror films, most on DVD instead of Blu-ray, and none from Criterion (although a few good deals). Must have been a short sale.
