Before he built his studio, it's been written that Selig rented a mansion at this site where he started producing movies. Sets had also been built in the backyard. The mansion is long gone and has been a parking lot for many years.

He built this studio in the Edendale, (now Glendale), section of Los Angeles in 1908. He sold it to William Fox in 1916.
