Audio commentary by Bebe Daniels and Maurice Campbell impersonators? But seriously folks, I'd be happy with a case and jacket art with a blurb on the back. Or if you wanna get crazy, a liner notes insert would be most welcome, like Chris Snowden used to throw in with his late lamented Unknown Video DVDs.

I'll plan for same as last few projects: case with art for domestic donors, disk for international.... International postal rates went up AGAIN beginning of February. I'll make art available as JPEG also....

With this project fully funded, and over a hundred DVDs to go out, it's an opportune moment to point out that for only $25, you can increase the work Ed has to do and get your own copy of this movie on dvd.

But mostly you get to make Ed work harder.

Very funny  . Actually for the last few projects I have delegated disk copy and art cover copy & trim to local businesses.

This one might require some extra work since it's being copied in HD at 24 fps, which I'm sure will be too fast. LOC copies off HD films at 24 fps. They also claim a 6-8 week turnaround on copy orders, so this one will take a little while. Composer won't be able to start until I get fps slowed to match (I hope) original running time of 60 minutes or so.

Just reached the point in the Iris Barry bio I've been reading for several days which describes the huge shindig thrown at Pickfair in 1935 to enlist the support of H'wood in supporting the proposed MOMA film library. In her speech, she addressed the concerns of some that their old silent pictures might not be presented properly: "they will be run at the right tempo, not hurried & jerked across the screen."

No hurrying & jerking, please!

Because I wish Mike would nail the Kickstarter projects to the top of their groups, but doesn't, it falls to people like me to keep them up there. There's less than two weeks to contribute. The bill doesn't come until then, so if you're planning to do it later, better to do it now lest you forget.

10 days to go and this campaign closes. Thanks to all.

LOC has a 6-8 week turnaround and was placed around Feb 21. As with Enchantment, I've ordered high-definition (HD) files and so I expect I'll need help. LOC copies HD at 24 fps, which is fast for a silent film. It will also be copied in a format readable on a PC (last one was a MAC program called PRO-RES) called DNxHD (MXF wrapper). We shall see. I can't send video files to composer until I get the film slowed down (film runs about 60 minutes) and transferred to a DVD format. I'll doublecheck with David on this.

I've been experimenting with Google Drive (it's free) which allows me to upload video files in various formats (ISO, AVI, MPEG, etc). Once uploaded, I can send the link to someone and they can download the files for their own purposes. Works fine so far as I can tell. Let me know if you want to try this.

Worst case scenario (too soon to speak, I know) is that' I'll have to schlep the film (which will come uploaded to an external drive) to the Northeast Historic Film archive in Bucksport, about 90 minutes away, and have Joe Gardner make the HD-to-DVD transfer for me. Might be able to use Google Drive, but I suspect the files will be too big. We shall see.

I likely won't receive the LOC project this month. I plan to use the same company in Biddeford to produce final DVDs that I've used on the last 2 projects; I use Staples to print and trim the cover art. These 2 steps take very little time. But of course I have no idea how long the music composition will take, but David was pretty quick on the last one.

Ed,

Thanks for posting the details of the project. It does sound quite fascinating, and very technical. I do not have a background in computers, so all of the various video formats sounds quite daunting. I would like to learn more to understand the different video formats and how to work with them, etc., like Ed does. I also know a person on this forum that has the technical ability to edit films. I just did some poking around for online courses, but I must not be typing in the exact search terms because I was not coming up with much. If anyone knows of any online courses on this subject they could share that would be great.

It's hunt and peck, trial and error for me. If I can work with the HD files, I can probably do everything here without having to do all that traveling. At least this this format is compatible with a PC.

With three days togo, there has been a sudden and shap rise in the number of people contributing. This sort of action always confuses me.They won't take the money until Wednesday; they were always going to take the money Wednesday; they were never not going to take the money Wednesday. So,logically, there should be a spike when the project is announced, then a sudden downdraft and thats it.

Unless there has been a sudden new source of donors. Does anyone know of such?

I've kept a low profile so the project hasn't been posted anywhere except here ... that I know of. Some of the recent names are familiar; most, not.

Yeah, I've noticed that as projects are near the end they will get a mention on a facebook page or something, and that produces a last minute boost, especially if they haven't made the goal.

Mark, I would expect people who have already contributed to toss in a few extra bucks at the last minute if it hasn't funded, but this sort of last-minute stuff without any clear new mentions that I can find -- although my search methods are limited to a few tricks using Google -- seems odd, not matching any rational analysis given the public information.

Which adds to the wealth of data indicating that people are not rational. Ay, weel.
