But their other specialty--bitter irony--was producing better pictures, on the whole, than any other studio of the time. I've just been watching a number of my favorite William Powells--they're ALL Paramounts! The consequences of his desertion to MGM are immediately apparent in such a film, for ex., as
Manhattan Melodrama (1934). (What, am I forgetting
The Thin Man? On the contrary, that's what I'm chiefly
remembering.)
