NEW KICKSTARTER: MARION DAVIES in BURIED TREASURE (1921)

PostMon Sep 18, 2017 11:10 am

Here's a link

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/10 ... reator_nav"

Marion Davies stars in a modern story about reincarnation. Have we lived before?

Filmed on the West Coast, sets (including a Spanish galleon) designed by Joseph Urban.

Co-stars Norman Kerry and Anders Randolf (as the Pirate of Wall Street).

Film has been re-sequenced. Missing final reel has been reconstructed.

Good luck, Ed! Funny how I so quickly toss my coin in the hat for these but hem and haw over cheaper professional releases. It must be due to the scarcity of the films or more likely because I know you are doing this because you love it and not to get rich on it.

Either way, pledged and look forward to it. Now I just need to actually watch April Folly ...

I take it the missing reel isn't the one that I've seen animated?

Hi Bob. Not sure what you mean. I used a bit of this film in APRIL FOLLY. I may have posted a work-in-progress bit from BURIED TREASURE but I don't remember doing it. I reconstructed the final reel (about 7 minutes long) with bits and pieces, based on the plot description (as opposed to Austen's story) that was submitted with the film on May 27, 1921, as part of the copyright process.

In as well. I have to say, now that these things are in their own ghetto I find it hard to remember to go looking for them. I would hate to have missed out on this.

Out of interest, what does the LoC charge these days? For a transfer/copy of a PD film, I mean?

Although I suppose from guessing that the score will be the most expensive part.

As the pledged amount rises, are you going to offer add-ons Ed? Jimmies? The animated Buried Treasure as an extra on the disc?

Rates are posted on LoC's site here. One possible savings is if the film has already been digitized...then you're paying for files and not a new scan. But you have to inquire about the film's status to find out.

For comparison, if you already have the 35 mm print reel(s), Debbenham Group (mymovietransfer.com) charges a flat fee of $400 for the first 1,500 feet of film (@16 minutes) and 0.25 per each additional foot with $400 minimum order fee. The transfer fee to your own supplied external hard drive is $100 or they can supply a brand new hard drive for $135 + depending on memory storage capacity (500 to 1 TB options). Each DVD-R is $10 and each Blue Ray is $25.

So, a 5,000 foot film would be @ $1385 + shipping and they do not send things via hazardous material which means via Fed Ex Ground it would be close to $1,430.

My point: LOC is pretty comparable to what else is out there.

I meant it literally, I recall that it used to be much lower.

The whole thing changes of course if the LoC already have a transfer. Now, many people are going to think it's rude and ungrateful to say so, but it's a bit of a weak spot that the budget is not specified at all. In professional business, people wouldn't get away with that. Reportedly a question about this simply went unanswered (I saw the project getting mentioned in a few other places). Don't get me wrong, I shake my head whenever I find cheap editions that used the first bit of PD music they could find so investing in a proper score, and things like that, is definitely a good thing.
