TCM Now Playing Guide

PostMon May 01, 2017 12:06 pm

TCM recently discontinued the print version of its Now Playing guide in favour of an emailed newsletter, which was a disappointing but hardly unexpected development. The trouble is, I've now subscribed to the email version twice, and haven't heard a peep from them - no confirmation or 'Thanks for Subscribing' email, and certainly no newsletter.

Anyone else having the same problem?

I didn't know anything about it until I read this post. I just renewed last month. Looks like the last printed issue will be August 2017. Maybe the new newsletter starts after the mag ends, the web site doesn't say. What a bummer. I always looked forward to Now Playing. It's the only magazine I subscribe to.

You're not the only one who asked this question. TCM said on Twitter that they 'hoped' to retain the crossword. The full statement, which is online here says there will be a 'variety of games, puzzles and contests'. It's not entirely clear from the statement, but I guess the email version won't begin until September.

Given how soon its cancellation comes after Robert Osbourne's passing, you have to assume that it was a passion project of his.

I resubscribed late last year for a two year subscription. I certainly hope if they're charging for the online guide that they'll credit folks like us.

Yes, they did say in the link I posted above that they would give a pro-rated refund to current subscribers.

I somehow let my sub lapse awhile back, but still surprised the print issue will be no more.
