Films shot or set in and around Alice Springs

PostFri Oct 06, 2017 2:07 pm

A friend fresh from a three-week trip down under was interested as to whether there were any films (and presumably TV series) shot or set in or around Alice Springs - aside from the obvious one! Any suggestions?

The Jimmy Wang Yu/George Lazenby action pic The Man From Hong Kong includes an opening scene of a drug bust at Uluru (a.k.a. Ayres Rock), the famous geological landmark just southwest of Alice Springs. Notable for featuring a young Sammo Hung, famous for his later work with his pal Jackie Chan.

Is the Nevil Shute story (A Town Like Alice) meant to be "the obvious one"? The five-hour BBC miniseries is a fine version.
