Joseff of Hollywood

PostWed Apr 04, 2018 2:13 pm

Last month I caught an episode of Strange Inheritance on Fox Business Channel concerning the inheritance of a large collection of jewelry from the family business, Joseff of Hollywood:

According to TV Guide, the episode will be repeated this Friday night, 9 PM Eastern time.

Season 4 • Episode 17 • Screen Gems
Family inherits 200,000 pieces of jewelry worn in classic Hollywood movies

The show features jewelry worn by Vivien Leigh, Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor. Also a cigar case used by Rhett Butler in GWTW, etc.

Worth watching, check your local listings.

It's a shame the collection has since been divided (it was auctioned off late last year - http://www.juliensauctions.com/auctions/2017/eugene-joseff/index.html). There was an exhibition of some of the best pieces at the San Francisco Airport a few years back. I feel very fortunate that I was able to see it before it was scattered to the four winds.

Annoyingly, the SFO Museum website doesn't seem to have archived the exhibition, possibly due to security concerns connected with the aforementioned auction, so here are a few photos I took:

Bette Davis' brooch from All About Eve

A collection of items from Gone With The Wind

Norma Shearer's necklace from Marie Antoinette

Ronald Colman's crown and sceptre from The Prisoner of Zenda

(An airport with museum exhibits - yes, it is indeed the greatest idea ever! I try and transit through SFO whenever I can just to check them out.)

It must be great to see them up close.
