Movies with Scenes of Watching the Stock Market Ticker Tape

PostThu Apr 19, 2018 9:42 am

I am curious which movies have scenes where someone is watching the stock market ticker tape. As sometimes with these threads, it's OK if it's a silent.

I seem to recall it in The Saphead (1920).

I remember a scene in the serial "Mystery of the Double Cross" where Leon Bary was looking at a ticker tape. I think it was a later episode, but I'm not sure.

It's in D. W. Griffith's A CORNER IN WHEAT. Also in the 1933 Universal film ONLY YESTERDAY.

"The Match King" (1932) with Warren William

I think that "American Madness" (1932) has ticker tape scenes at the beginning, but I'm not sure...

It's been years since I've seen this film, but I believe there's a relevant shot, maybe an entire sequence, in Crawford's Dance, Fools, Dance (1931).

"Edison the Man" has a scene in which Spencer Tracy sells the first stock ticker.

There's a stock market scene here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTiI9TmA_zA at about the 49:00 point, with a shot of a man reading a ticker at 50:10.

Happy hunting!

I'm pretty sure there is a scene with a stock ticker in the Coen brothers' The Hudsucker Proxy (1994).

A more recent film, MAURICE (1987) has several scenes of ticker-tape-watching. It takes place in 1913.
