Tweet Can Nitrateville add a Comedy forum?

Hello Mike,
Would Nitrateville consider adding a forum section for Comedy discussion within the silents section? Most of the posters in the Silents seem mainly interested in dramatic silents than comedies.

I don't care for the idea. While I understand that there are people who are interested only in comedy and find the task of wading through the discussions of Nita Naldi's stockings or whatever onerous, I think a separate section is a bad idea. People who have a particular interest can simply go there and need never lift their heads to see the other stuff. Their worlds will never be widened. Ghettoization is a poor idea, since the Jews never sees the goyim and the Christians never see the paynim. Hard to learn about the other guys under those circumstances.

It never bothered me one way or the other, but my interests have always been esatoric (now, who'd I steal that from?), and reading about films I don't have much interest in isn't a big issue. Just pick and choose, but remember thread drift may cause you to miss an interesting discussion.

As Bob has suggested, we don't really want to see NV overly compartmentalized. Major categories are good, but if we had a comedy section, it stands to reason that someone would also want sections for drama, noir, and so on.

It could get as bad as TCM's forums! They're like a neighborhood full of little cul-de-sacs.

Thanks for responding. It was just a thought and I fully understand Nitrateville's concerns with it. Even though my main interest is comedy I really enjoy all sorts of other silent productions and reading many of the past postings, learning a lot along the way.
