Idea for a Nitrateville Board: Talking About Books

PostSun Sep 28, 2014 4:54 am

I think it would be great if Nitrateville would create a board for Books where members could start threads about various film books, many of them decades out of print, and discuss /review the book if it is worth reading, owning, etc. There were tons of film books published in the 1960s-1970s, many of which I'm tempted to buy but having never seen a copy I am often reluctant to do so, having made blind purchases in the past I regretted. Most of these very old books don't have reviews even at Amazon. I think perhaps this board would be better in the Reference section since it could include books on silents, talkies, old time radio, theatre, etc.

It could cover Radio TV Film The Stage etc. .....
in books, but also journals, the trades, and magazines.
And, as a part of it, there could be a thread concerning
upcoming publications, as well as entertainment book events/signings,
alerting folks who'd either like to attend them,
or who'd want to order signed books by phone/email-
on the day of the event, or later on, from a store's stock.
There might even be threads for certain stores that
specialize in such events, like

Larry Edmunds Bookshop.

I moved this to Site Chat, because it is.

This is where I hoped such a board would be created however since it's a section rarely used I hope people will see it.

We have had individual threads regarding favorite books or types of books, or sometimes just individual books, but it might be easier to have a separate header. It does take me a bit of searching to find the proper thread when I want to post a review. I don't know how difficult it would be to create one. Examples:

viewtopic.php?t=1663" target="_blank
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18049" target="_blank

Maybe there could be a "Books About the Era." section?
