I have been using a lot of European newspaper digital archives for research - there's quite a few out there!
My most recent work is in
https://www.delpher.nl/, which is free, and to put things into perspective, covers not only The Netherlands but also Dutch colonies, particularly if film research takes place around before 1950. Imagine my surprise when I discovered "Adventures of Captain Marvel" being shown in Indonesia (Java) in 1950! As well as some of Tom's Three Mesquiteers films shown in Curacao in 1950, as well. The only drawback to this archive is the user will have to Google the location of most newspapers if a city is not mentioned in the newspaper title. It's still worth looking into, even for those researchers who don't understand Dutch (I can get by on German for the most part).
http://www.theeuropeanlibrary.org Has lots of newspapers, very easy to search by subject, plus filters for nation, date, etc.
Also:

And:
