Charles Prince and Charles Lederer

PostThu Dec 04, 2014 1:44 pm

Charles Prince a.k.a. "Rigadin""Moritz""Whiffles""Tartufini"Image
The French comedian Charles Prince inscribes a caricature-
little guessing that a (seeming) paucity of surviving quality films,
a plethora of confusing international nicknames,
and his divorce of Princess Diana
would all, when combined, make him an unlikely candidate
for an Undercrank collection.

Charles Lederer

Marion Davies' live-in nephew, friend to Hawks, Harpo, and Hecht,
Orson Welles' unlikeliest buddy and neighbor (while wed to Welles' first spouse),
Tony award winning screenwriter Charles Lederer.

GRACE HENDERS0N (1860-1944)

PostFri Dec 05, 2014 3:18 pm

From 1909-1919, HENDERS0N had 122 Silent Acting Credits (113 Of Them Shorts- 2 Of Which She Wrote)
and 19 or so Broadway roles. Most of the film credits were with Biograph/Griffith/Sennett.
If she'd stuck with Mack a bit longer, she’d’ve worked with Chaplin,
and then maybe her film career would've made her obit.

George Oppenheimer

PostSun Dec 07, 2014 2:40 am

Image
August 29:… Georgie Opp[enheimer] called about six and we went to see Holiday Inn….. We were both bored by Holiday Inn which is
the type of picture which, while not unpleasant in the least, makes one ashamed of being connected with the pictures. Afterwards we
stopped at Romanoff’s and there Jerry and Eve Kern sat. Jerry looking the sweet, frail old musician he distinctly is not. George
walked up to him, “I’m so glad to see you, Jerry- I’ve enlisted.” “As what?” Kern asked, “A hostess?” “In the Army,” George answered.
“You mean to tell me you’re going to carry a gun?” “No,” George said. “Well what are you going to do, dig latrines?” “I am waiting to
get a commission,” George said. “Well, why didn’t you tell me you were a profiteer.”

George Oppenheimer, who finished his career with a twenty year stint as a critic, co-founded The Viking Press in 1925,
had 4
Broadway shows, and, in his Oscar-nominated quarter century in Hollywood, co-wrote three Marx Brothers films,
Flywheel, Shyster, and Flywheel, and ten Topper scripts with Stephen Sondheim. Yet he lacks a Wikipedia page of his own.

D0R0THY D0NNELLY- The writer who made Fields a film

She acted on Broadway and in silents (Madame X), and wrote the books for the musicals The Student Prince-filmed by Lubitsch, Blossom Time, and W. C. Fields’ Poppy- for which she also provided the lyrics and direction. Griffith, of course, filmed the Fields silent version, Sutherland, the talkie. Born the same year as Fields, she died in 1928.

GE0RGIA CAINE- A Sturges Stalwart

PostMon Jan 05, 2015 12:27 am

Image
The 28-year-old pictured above was later in 8 films written by Sturges, 7 of which he directed.
Which seems quite a lot, until one realizes ten performers appeared in more Sturges comedies, and two others equalled her record. It is not quite accurate to classify her as strictly a comic performer- she could play both heavy (Stanwyck's mom in Remember the Night) and light (Bracken's mom in Morgan's Creek)- but she made her greatest mark in comic films and in Broadway musical comedies - 3 with George M Cohan, 2 for George Ade, 1 for George Kaufman, 1 with the Astaires, Bob Hope, & Ring Lardner - and her last Broadway performance was in Lindsay & Runyon's A Slight Case Of Murder.
Click poster below to see her in her second talkie, with Addie McPhail and Anita Garvin.

PostThu Jan 08, 2015 3:58 pm

Image
Her 16 imdb acting credits include at least one comedy.
But Myrtle - it turns out- also worked at Keystone (image 1, column 2)
And Reeves had aquatic skills (image 2, 7th paragraph)
Myrtle Reeves and “Picture Director” husband O. N. Hardy were sued (another nice mess!) for assault (image 3, column 2)

Anyone have an opinion on the most intellectually gifted of these obscure comics, comedy scripters, and directors?
