All Things Dick Powell

PostWed Apr 08, 2009 4:19 pm

Hello everyone!

I am hard at work on my Dick Powell website. I am always looking for new, unique memorabilia and magazine articles. I am also looking for a few more of his films:

The King's Vacation
Big City Blues
Just Around the Corner (short)
The Road is Open Again (short)
A Dream Comes True (short)
Stage Struck
Hard to Get
I Want a Divorce
Meet the People
Johnny O'Clock
Rogue's Regiment

Any episodes of The Dick Powell Show, Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theater, or any other random appearances of Dick in television would be helpful as well. Please contact me if you have anything! Thanks!

A DREAM COMES TRUE is a one-reel short about the making of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. It appears as an extra on the Warner DVD of the feature.

Okay, thanks, it looks like I have that one then. I just saw the title on IMDB and it seemed unfamiliar.

The Road is Open Again was sold on Super 8mm and 16mm film by Reel Images in the 1970s and 1980s. It is almost certainly public domain.

JUST AROUND THE CORNER is a commercial short made by Warner Bros. and General Electric. I bought a 16mm print on eBay a couple of years ago for $400. Warners does have 35mm safety and nitrate materials on this two-reeler and, supposedly, will release it on an appropriate DVD as an extra.

Thanks for the Dick Powell site. (He's still the best Philip Marlowe, with due respect to Bogie).

Have you seen this, by the way, Powell's Zane Grey Theater from VCI:

Looks like a good set.

I have the following on DVD: BIG CITY BLUES (decent print quality),I WANT A DIVORCE, JOHNNY O'CLOCK, and ROGUES REGIMENT. Feel free to email me and I'll reply.

"It's the stuff that really boring dreams are made of," Sam Spade's last line in the Maltese Falcon (1941).

I am still looking for:

Big City Blues
Just Around the Corner (short)
The Road is Open Again (short)
Johnny O'Clock

Any episodes of The Dick Powell Show, season 2 of Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theater, or any other random appearances of Dick in television would be helpful as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I run DickPowell.net and want the site to be as complete as possible.

In my other thread listing books for sale I have the Photoplay Edition for the early sound film The Greene Murder Case http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0019949/ by S. S. Van Dine 1929. Starring William Powell and Florence Eldridge. Paramount. Nice shape. $4 plus shipping.

It is a novelization for the film and includes stills from the movie.

Not Dick Powell but since I took the time to type this post before finding my mistake I'll leave it up.
