LC,

:? Hmm, on my monitor, even his shirt collar is a light green shade. There isn't much diversity.

Hm. On second look, the suit and shirt do seem to have taken on slight greenish tint. I wouldn't say a pronounced green, but it's still detectable. We'll just say Harold is celebrating St. Patrick's day.

Green? That's not what I'm seeing on my monitor. The suit is supposed to be grey and the tie is dark blue.

Every monitor has a somewhat different appearance unless it's calibrated. Most aren't, unless you're a photographer or graphic artist; they tend to drift over time, with older monitors drifting more. It's very green on mine, tending toward cyan (blue-green); not only the coat, but the entire "white" border, highlights of the photo, etc. I'm a photographer and Photoshop teacher in "real life" and use a calibrated monitor. Truth to tell, that's overkill for the average computer user, but yours must be quite a bit off to show such a green shift.

Thanks for the observation. I went back and compared the image to an earlier version and found that the one posted earlier does show a greenish tint on the suit (though I still don't see it as "very green," but that is probably due to the lack of a calibrated monitor). Here's the earlier image. Does anyone see green in the suit?
Image
BTW - the greenish coloring had to have been introduced as I was playing around with the image settings. I actually did not apply any color to the suit.

No green now - the suit is neutral grey, and the card border is perfectly white.

Here's another photo from Movie Crazy. As I was finishing work, I stumbled across the same image used on a lobby card. Here are both of them for comparison.

LC,

:) Looks great, but I would like to see Harold's hat have a little more color. Not just plain white.

:? Meantime, anyone want to take a stab at this one here? Betty Compson from THE BARKER. It's hard to work on because it is so contrasty. Plus the amber-gold tint is a problem. Difficult to get the flesh tone or anything to look good. I tried working on this and hated the results, so maybe somebody else wants to take a crack at it?

LC,

:) Here I added a light tint to the hat. But your work on this is terrific. Much better than the luck I had with Betty. Didn't even want to post it here.

On this other one, I made Harold's tie red, and tried to give the hair on both of them a little more sheen. Why does it look from this angle as if HL is unbuttoning Constance blouse from the back with his gloved hand?

Everyone,

:? So nobody tried their hand at the Betty Compson yet? Here is a still from KIKI which airs on Silent Sunday's for the first time this week. Not a TCM Premier since it was part of Ronald Colman day on Summer Under The Stars last August. But it will be the first time we have heard a Robert Osborne introduction, maybe for any Norma Talmadge feature. I was unaware that the original Broadway Stage play had Starred Lenore Ulrich. I have a friend who is Gaga about her.

Goodness, I've been absent quite awhile.
Here's my take on the Compson pic. Yeah, I'm not too satisfied with it, it looks rather sloppy.
Image
My biggest problem was what color to make that weird wave thing on the right. It looked like some sort of plant leaves got caught in the waves, so I colored it green. :? I actually started the Compson pic about 2 days ago, but I put it on temporary hold because I was colorizing some other pics for the 29th.
Here's two more lobby cards for Laugh, Clown Laugh.

Gagman and Martie,

I've got too much of a backlog to tackle Miss Compson but I thought I could help the cause by squeezing some better contrast out of the image, which in turn should lead to a better color transfer. At least we can hope:

Today is what would have been Our Lady of Whims' 107th (or 105th, if you believe she was born in 1907) birthday, so I've decided to kick off the celebrations with some colorizations I made especially for today.

Martie,

:) Lo, I forgot Clara's Birthday again? I have my own versions of all but maybe a couple of these photos. Two of three of them look very similar to yours. Yes, I agree for a short girl that is the ultimate Gam right there stepping forward! Holy Toledo! Indeed, she is "Artemis" I believe. Could Hunt me any time!

Does anybody know what color Connie Talmadge's eyes were? I'm busy working on a colorization of her.
Also, on a side note, did anybody catch Kiki on TCM last night? First time I've seen Norma in action, she was great!
(Not to mention I want Kiki's dress, hat and purse with the huge powder puff...)

Martie,

Yes, I've said before I think KIKI is one of the funniest films ever made. Ditio Constance Talmadge THE LOVE EXPERT.

:o The Talmadge Sisters had great big Brown eyes. Belaying the lyrics to SMILIN' THROUGH' "When those two eyes of Blue come Smilin' Through at me".

:) Norma was truly the "Queen of Hollywood" in the first half of the Roaring 20's. Between 1920 and 1925 her popularity and box office appeal was second to none. Ahead of Pickford, Negri, Gish, Swanson, or anyone! In a 1921 major trade Fan Poll, Norma received more then twice as many votes as any other woman on the list. In second place incidentally, was her delightful Sister Constance, who everyone knew by the nickname "Ducth". In 1926 Norma was finally knocked out of the top spot by Colleen Moore. Who was the top ranked Box-office Star Male or Female of that year.
