How Charlie Chaplin filmed The Champion in Niles, CA

PostSat Nov 19, 2016 6:16 pm

Charlie filmed his Essanay boxing comedy The Champion (1915) on location in Niles, CA. It will be featured Dec. 3 at the SF Silent Film Festival Day of Silents event. http://www.silentfilm.org/homepage/gallery/save-the-date

The film's restoration was sponsored by the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum. http://nilesfilmmuseum.org/

You can read about Charlie filming in Niles at this post below. One surprise, you can see a portion of the town baseball field bleachers in the back of one scene.

Kudos, John, for spotting that view of the Museum poking up over the fence!
