Re: TCM via cable vs. Filmstruck

I tried Filmstruck for their 14 day free trial and liked it a lot. They were featuring a Godzilla Collection and my son is huge fan, so we enjoyed watching some truly "bad there's so good" films one night. Beside this highbrow entertainment, I was able to enjoy 3 versions of Orson Wells "Mr. Arkadin...

The "Big Trail" in High Definition?

Fox issued a "blu-ray of "The Big Trail" a few years back. My question is whether the widescreen version of the film is truly a high definition scan of the film? I remember that it was copied many years ago from a widescreen print, but does that mean it was in high definition?

Re: Films With Re-Used Footage

The Pearl Harbor attack footage from "Tora, Tora, Tora" (1970) shows up again in "Midway" (1976) and even in a flashback sequence in a "Magnum P.I." TV episode. Director Richard Fleischer of "Tora, Tora, Tora" felt this was a misuse of his work.

Re: 3-D RARITIES II

You can get a 3D capable projector for $400-600 that will display a 70-100" picture (try doing that with a TV). Shutter 3D Glasses run about $25.00 a pair. You will need a 3D blu ray player. A white wall or screen will complete this set up. There are reviews of all kinds of projectors at ProjectorCe...

I have about 25 March of Times VHS tapes (many of them new) that I was going to transfer to DVD and use in my history classes. That time has passed and I never got "around to it." I don't want any money for them, but you will need to pay the library rate shipping. If there is no takers, they are goi...

Awesome News! I see you are going to give the release a restored 3 channel stereo track (which was also a great treat on "Those Redheads from Seattle"). Thanks Bob and Crew for all the great work you are doing in restoring these classic films!

She to me was the star of the Warner Brothers anti-Nazi film "Underground" (1940). Too bad this interview has no translation to English and a annoying script/email address right across her face.

Any "New (old) 3D Restorations in Store from Warner Archive?

The last 3D restoration/Blu Ray release from Warner Archive was "Kiss Me Kate." Since Warner Archive controls the film libraries of MGM (pre 1985), Warner Bros, and RKO there should be at least one new release by now. Any news?

Digital restoration of HOW THE WEST WAS WON

I've really enjoyed the "Smilebox" version of this film on 9' foot screen. The restoration was top-notch for the most part. What I don't understand is why some obvious problems were not fixed. For instance: The opening shot is from a plane flying over a mountain. You can see several "bug hits" on th...

It's a shame a lot of the "Colgate Comedy Hour" broadcasts were done in color live from New York, but were only saved as black and white kinescopes. Re: What Happens when the "Smile" Meets the "Curve"?

You bring up a good point here. The "Smilebox" effect will be much more effective if you have a projector and a screen. Showing "How the West was Won" in "Smilebox" on a 8 foot screen you do get an approximation of what the Cinerama experience was all about. I say this, because I have attended a rea...
