Re: Did Charles Farrell's acting EVER get any better?

H. David Strauss wrote the following when he was reviewing Heartbreak (1931), one of Farrell's MIA Fox Films, in Billboard: "Another war story, with Charles Farrell in the leading role, supported by Madge Evans,...and John Arledge, and with the Arledge lad walking away with all the honors....Farrell...

Re: Capitolfest 2018

A sincere thanks to all of you that commented on Capitolfest 2018 and your reviews on the films. I remember attending a few years ago when Nancy Carroll was the featured star. One of the films shown was "Follow Thru" in two strip color. The film had been recently restored. The print was so clear and...

Capitolfest 2018

Can any of those who attended Capitolfest in Rome NY last weekend give an overview of some of the films? I was once again unable to attend due to health issues. Was there a nice crowd? How were the films? I had especially wanted to see the restored Mamba, The Mad Game with Spencer Tracy, The Storm w...

Re: 'Lilac Time' TCM Wed Oct 24th 6am EST

I remember when TCM pulled "Lilac Time" off the schedule just a week or so before airing without any explanation. I was surprised to see it on the schedule again. I won't hold my breath but I sure hope this time around they'll air it. If they are truly intent on airing it then why did they schedule ...

Re: Excess Baggage (1928) Lost film with William Haines Exis

Maybe my post belongs in another topic but the discussion of only the sound disks existing for "Excess Baggage" has me confused. I know that the early talkies were either Vitaphone or Movietone. Vitaphone was Warner Bros/First National and was basically film and sound from a disk like a record. I th...

Re: Did Charles Farrell's acting EVER get any better?

The Charles Farrell/Janet Gaynor team was my Mom's favorite movie couple. I remember her telling me how she enjoyed their films. When I first saw them in 7th Heaven and Street Angel I could see the chemistry and magnetism they had. They also made an attractive couple. He was very handsome and strong...

Re: Did Charles Farrell's acting EVER get any better?

[quote="donwc1996"]I've been a fan of Charles Farrell for quite some time. From his 1st pairing with Janet Gaynor in the 1927 film Seventh Heaven, he found stardom and they continued to be the most popular screen couple into the early thirties. They made about 12 films together-some of which now see...

Re: FOX FILM RESTORATIONS at MOMA!

My most wanted to see films from Fox which could possibly be seen in this series in "High Society Blues" (which is at UCLA) and "Merely Mary Ann" (at MoMA). Of course, there are other films which I would like to see from Fox, but their chances of being shown are very slight. I would hope that the p...

There is also no "Golddiggers Of 1938". There is "Golddiggers of 1937" and "Golddiggers of Paris" made in 1938.

Re: Critically acclaimed musical features

So I assume none of the Warner Bros. musicals such as 42nd Street, The Golddiggers films (1933, 1935 and 1937), Footlight Parade nor any of the Fox musicals with Alice Faye and Betty Grable are considered "critically acclaimed"?
Huh?

Re: When actors muff their lines

Offhand I remember one flub (if you want to call it that) from "Personal Property" with Jean Harlow and Robert Taylor in 1937. The director of that film was Woody Van Dyke, known as "one take Woody". In one bedroom scene Jean has a coughing fit and the scene remained in the film. No retakes. The fil...

According t the IMD it doesn't appear to have any "rights" issues" to prevent from being distributed or telecast.
I see that it is listed on ioffer.com (probably some bootleg copy).

Re: Palo Alto, CA: Paramount 1930-35

For some unknown reason to me there are some rights issues with two of Clara Bow's talkies: Her Wedding Night and Kick In. Her other talkies are available in some format (bootleg and other). I have never seen Her Wedding Night but I did see Kick In at the Film Forum several years ago. The film had r...

Awesome! What I found intriguing is how people were all dressed up. The guys in overcoats and hats and the women
in dresses and skirts. People used to dress up then. Not like today.

Thanks Sherri for the information. It's too bad that Warner Brothers isn't planning to release it on Blue Ray or DVD after the effort of restoring it. Why hasn't TCM ever shown Marion Davies in "It's A Wise Child"? It's an MGM film and I'm sure it would be in the Turner library. It's not a lost film either.
