Re: They Shall Not Grow Old

It reminds me a lot of my efforts to add color to b&w photos. No matter how hard I tried, I always seemed to end up using a limited palette. Just last week, I tried to colorize a photo I had taken of a waterfall. Despite working with various shades of green, the trees in the photo looked like a unif...

Re: New Online Exhibition on Annette Kellerman

The Nelson Evans photo collection that I've been working on recently has a series of 17 shots of Kellerman, many of which have never been published. The collection also contains 2 sets of the nude photos from Daughter of Neptune, probably taken by Evans during his time with Witzel.

Re: Swanson / Vernon shorts

I thought it might be Morris, but I couldn't find any other photos of him. My guess is that the group of photos was shot during the filming of A SOCIAL CLUB. But the one that includes Arbuckle confuses me. Was A SOCIAL CLUB shot at Fort Lee?

Re: Swanson / Vernon shorts

I'm in the process of cataloging a large collection of photographs, including many with both Swanson and Vernon. There's a group of photos that also include someone I haven't been able to identify: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1882/30443726768_dae93ed610_z.jpg One of these photos also includes Ros...

Re: Unidentified Fox-Sunshine stills published in 1921

There's a few dozens photos of Fox Sunshine/Skirts ladies in the Nelson Evans collection I've been cataloging. How difficult will it be to put names to faces? Here's a page from one of the albums in the collection:

Re: Extraordinary Film Artefacts You've Seen

As someone who has been researching the life and work of photographer Nelson Evans for the last several years, the most extraordinary film related items that I've seen make up a large collection of photographs and other items that came from the Evans Studio. Nearly 2000 photographs, many never publi...

I've come to the conclusion that a)both photos are of the same person, and b)that person is not an actress. I do have an idea about her identity, but it'll take a bit more research to be certain.

Need ID for 2 Actresses

Wondering who these 2 women might be:

and

The first one I feel I should know, but I'm drawing a blank on the second. Both date from around 1920-22.

Re: 10th Annual Watch That Movie Night is January 26!

Kean (1924) I have been neglecting Flicker Alley's Films Albatros boxset, so this seemed like a good opportunity to rectify the situation. I chose Kean for my viewing and wasn't disappointed. Ivan Mosjoukine plays Edmund Kean, the great Shakespearean actor of the early 19th century. The film begins ...

Louise Fazenda played a character named Mandy in 'Won by Dynamite' for Joker in 1915, which might explain the signature. The photo looks like it might date from around that time.

Re: What is the last film you watched? (2017)

I just caught the documentary Toshiro Mifune The Last Samurai. This from 2015-2016 was a brief lok at Mifune's career, primarily his samurai films and collaborations with Kurosawa. There were not too many insights into Mifune as a person, he seemed a very private man. I enjoyed the film a great dea...

Re: Was She Really in the Movies?

I did watch Teddy at the Throttle in hopes of seeing her. There was a couple of scenes which she could have been in, but I couldn't pick anyone out that might have been her. Her last husband didn't allow her to perform on the stage, but she did do some radio in the 30s. Unfortunately, I have no deta...

Re: Was She Really in the Movies?

I did manage to find a 1959 interview with Ms. Coviere. She said that she appeared in several movies, including To Have and To Hold in 1916, a Sennett short (possibly Teddy at the Throttle based on her description), and Valentino's The Conquering Power , which was the last film she appeared in. She ...

Re: Was She Really in the Movies?

As the article states, her real name was Genevieve Cover, although she was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, not Madrid, Spain. If her marriage to Sidney Lowenstein was legit, it didn't last very long. Early the next year, she married song composer Bert Grant. That marriage was short-lived as well. B...

Was She Really in the Movies?

I've come across someone in my research who claimed in 1922 to have appeared in movies (indeed, to have been an actual star), but I have so far found no credits for her. For a few years, up to about 1914, she mainly did vaudeville and cabaret, but moved to Los Angeles in 1915 or so. Her stage names ...

Re: Enter to win Beggars of Life and Variete from Kino Class

Lots of choices out there, but I would have to go with Limite , a Brazilian silent avant-garde film from 1931. Rarely seen, it's a miracle that it still exists at all, let alone on blu ray. I'm probably one of the few people who like avant-garde films, so I'm happy to see it on any video format. For...
