Re: STAN AND OLLIE trailer

...Or the Three Stooges remake. I thought the comedy movie was kind of fun. It did a decent job of presenting the characters in a modern context. That 3 Stooges docudrama was abysmal though. I think my problem is that I love the characters. I don't want to see the angst they went through off screen...

Here’s hoping that those of us who already have the creature films multiple times will be able to buy Revenge as a separate 3D disc. Based on previous releases in this series, the price will drop close to a single disc movie after Christmas. If you can be patient you'll get the whole set for the pr...

I found out today why his last signature is so messed up. I went to the DMV to get my license renewed and they made me sign one of those little digital pads. My signature always looks awful on those. Jerry wrote OK after his name to indicate that he didn't care that his signature looked messy. Yes, ...

Sorry... it looks like I posted this in the wrong forum. It really isn't much of a talkie. The main feature on here is a silent film with musical score. If the admin wants to move this to the silent forum, that would probably be better.

The Informer 1929

Just a quick post to let folks know that BFI's restoration of The Informer is spectacular. Crystal clear with great contrast levels. Rock solid visuals. The Irish folk music themed score takes a bit of getting used to, but it's serviceable. This is one of the most impeccably lit and composed films I...

Re: Blu-ray: the beginning of the end

4K is important for theatrical screenings because the screen is huge and some rows are very close to the screen. For homes with normal sized screens and viewing distances, 1080p is fine. By the way, there isn't a lot of difference between 2K and 1080p. I think the reason Ali has this impressions is ...

Re: Blu-ray: the beginning of the end

Whether or not a 4K blu-ray is better than a 1080p blu-ray depends on your definition of "better" and your viewing conditions. If you walk right up to the screen and pixel peep, 4K will be better. If you sit at a normal viewing distance, there may be no difference. For archival purposes, the higher ...

Re: Blu-ray: the beginning of the end

Of course 4K has more detail than 2K. That's a given. The question is, if you are at a proper viewing distance from the screen so the image doesn't go too far off in your peripheral vision, can you even see the additional detail? You can sit right up in the front row of a theater and see more detail...

Things like Buster's straighter moments in THE GENERAL, and Chaplin's in CITY LIGHTS, are bad? Not bad, but I like Sherlock Jr and The Gold Rush better.
