The Cinematheque Franćaise in Paris has the original "Mrs Bates" head from "Psycho" on display - apparently donated by Mr Hitchcock. Now that's what I call an artefact!

Re: Research about silent cinema fans - Silent film festival

Here in Scotland we have the annual Bo'ness Silent Film Festival, held in March over 5 days at the town's restored Hippodrome cinema - this year the Friday night Gala screening was Lubitsch's "The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg", ably accompanied by pianist Neil Brand. Previous years have given us...

Re: KING OF JAZZ on DVD or BluRay

Thanks guys; yes I will do that. Order it ahead of my trip, and have it delivered to them. I am going to do the same thing with "I Could Go On Singing" (1963) - a Judy Garland musical available on bluray ONLY in the US from a company called Twilight Time. I've been waiting to that to come to Englan...

Re: RHAPSODY IN BLUE (1945) - a question

According to the liner notes to Rhino's 2-CD issue of "George and Ira Gershwin in Hollywood", the Overture to "Rhapsody in Blue" (1945) was arranged and orchestrated by Ray Heindorf and conducted by Leo Forbstein. Recorded circa June 1944 - it runs for 10:13.

Just a heads-up to let UK fans of Mr Howard (and also this excellent documentary: "The Man Who Gave a Damn") that it has been shown on Talking Pictures TV here in Britain over the Christmas period and that it will be repeated over the next few months. Also I believe that it has been picked up by TCM...

It has been officially released here in the UK on DVD by Fox - I have a copy. Think it came out as part of a Fox box set of musicals in 2007. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sun-Valley-Serenade-Sonja-Henie/dp/B000LC3RR0/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1513883643&sr=1-2&keywords=sun+valley+serenade" target="_b...

In the UK here too - but as I don't have an all-region Blu-ray player, I wondered if this will be picked up and released over here - I originally thought that it might be issued here by the British arm of Criterion, but after asking on another forum (thanks Malcy!) it was hinted that as it is a Univ...

Re: WOW.HD for European customers buying US releases?

As a UK DVD/blu ray collector - I have dealt with WowHD for a few years now, and have found them reliable and have never had anything from them stopped at Customs. Probably because they ship them in themselves to the UK and re-send them from there. Prices vary, but I feel it is worth it, knowing tha...

Re: Butchering of Films

BBC TV here in the UK for many years ran a print of the Astaire/Rogers "Follow the Fleet" with Harriet Hilliard's song "Get Thee Behind Me, Satan" cut to ribbons to remove the word "Satan" from the lyrics - it was a travesty of the original! Apparently the censors in Britain at the time of the film'...

I am so in for this! King of Jazz has long been one of my favourite early musicals - since a rare screening on BBC TV in the 1970's (I think - or it might have been the late 1960's), I was hooked! Paul Whiteman with Crosby was THE band of the 1930's - and this book will be the icing on the cake for ...
