Re: 11th Annual Watch That Movie Night is January 28!

I've had the Olive blu-ray of the William S. Hart western "Wagon Tracks" for close to two years so that will be my choice. One question though: will an alternate title be offered if the contestant already owns the new blu-rays of "Old Ironsides" and "You Never Know Women"?

Someone else will likely be able to answer your question, but in case you're interested, the car is a Hudson.

Re: Pending releases from Flicker Alley

Little Caesar, If you get a chance to watch and listen to the latest version of Little Annie Rooney that was recently rereleased by the Mary Pickford Foundation with the score done by Andy Gladbach and a 16 piece orchestra you will be impressed. I saw this in person in 4/18 in Seattle at the Paramo...

Re: A Small Request For Info

Doesn't the 1936 version of The Charge of the Light Brigade end with a shot of a letter burning? Also, I seem to recall a shot of a letter burning in The Kid, but I can't recall off-hand if the scene was later cut by Chaplin or not.

Re: Pending releases from Flicker Alley

I'm surprised that we haven't yet seen a state-side release of the new restoration of King of Kings . That was supposed to be coming from Flicker Alley, right? For that matter, what happened to The Silent Enemy ? Concerning the Mary Pickford scores, I heard the score for Little Annie Rooney when tha...

Re: BOAN (Photoplay) from Twilight Time in May

Flicker Alley had announced this a couple of years back in one of their calendars. Wonder what made them drop it. I was sort of surprised by this news as I also remembered that tentative Flicker Alley announcement. BOAN is not a title I would have expected from the company, but as far as I am conce...

Re: Harold Lloyd one reelers

Yes, such a release would indeed be very welcome. While all of Lloyd's 1920s work is by now thankfully available for anyone to see, his crucial development as a performer (and film-maker) from c. 1916-1919 remains sadly obscure by comparison. Hopefully the Lloyd estate, if no one else, will someday...

Re: King of Jazz on The Criterion Collection in March!

All right! The complaining has been going here here since at least 2012, about the lack of the film, the poor quality of the print, the sloth of the restoration, the fact that it's not playing at the poster's neighborhood house, to a lack of a blu-ray/dvd release. What are people going to complain ...

Re: Tom Sawyer (1938) archival status?

A few years back, Echo Bridge Entertainment (one of the bottom feeders of the DVD market) licensed some films from Disney, and somehow the Selznick Tom Sawyer was lumped in with all of the Ernest films. As expected, there is a DVD which isn't too bad if my memory is to be trusted. Then again, I foun...

Re: Good Films with Bad Titles?

How about "Christmas Holiday" (1944)? Based upon the title and the two leading players (Deanna Durbin and Gene Kelly) alone, I would assume that the movie would be a light-hearted, musical frolic. Instead, the movie is about as bleak as can be. Another misleading title is "In the Good Old Summertime...

Bobbi Shaw, Eddie Hodges, Irene Tsu, George Maharis, James Karen, and Norman Lloyd are all still around and could potentially be interviewed. I really don't see what Bogdanovich could do to top the masterful Brownlow documentary, but I'll take a look at it once it's available.

Youtv to show the silent version of "Mr. Robinson Crusoe"

Youtv is a cable channel that has an eclectic and frankly incoherent collection of programs. They do show some vintage films mostly late at night, and those films tend to be public domain fare in very battered prints. However, occasionally they do show what may called a gem in the rough, and tomorro...

Thanks, and I agree with you that something screwy is going on here.
