Re: Blu-ray: the beginning of the end

I can't find a single 4k disc silent movie on amazon's US site. Not holding my breath, considering how many great silents still haven't even made it to DVD (much less Blu-Ray).

Re: The Greatest Popcorn Breaks In Film History

The quality of the popcorn in the vast majority of US theaters has declined so precipitously since they stopped using coconut oil as to nearly make this question moot (and don't get me started on the lack of real butter). That said, I was never one to get up much during a film...only the most insist...

Re: COHEN MEDIA GROUP TO RESTORE "THE OLD DARK HOUSE"

Great news. An observation, though. Karloff appeared in numerous films, according to IMDB, between 1919 and October of 1932 (when The Old Dark House was released). Hard to believe he wasn't credited in any of them.

Not that anyone could have known but the most featured guy from the tour bus, Gary from Chicago, was recently released from prison after serving 20 years for multiple felonies including attempted rape. Unfortunate.

Hurt Locker only made $17 million, Moonlight is up to $22 million. Of course Hurt Locker was 7 in years ago, and ticket prices seem to go up yearly these days.

Re: The Pantheon of Oscar Best Pictures

These kinds of lists are fun, but I don't want to get into where I agree/disagree at the moment. My question: which was the last (including La La Land) Best Picture Winner that actually deserved to win? For me, it would be either No Country for Old Men (2008), which was certainly a deserving film al...

Re: What Role for 4K UHD Disks in Collecting?

I would think most any film would benefit from 4K. Whether or not you'd notice much difference on your tv is debatable and would depend on a number of factors. I think certainly you'd notice a difference if you have a projector. The one thing people seem to overlook with 4K is many of the newer sets...

I think the code you enter is 8520...don't have instructions in front of me but you can google. You can't just put in blu ray and have it play though. Panasonic would be the same...would still have to enter code. BTW, pre-ordered Napoleon from amazon.uk and got mine on Friday.

Dunno about your side of the pond but amazon prime has some 4K content in the US, as do Netflix (extra cost) and youtube. 4k players are available here although they cost about $320. I don't personally know anyone who has one. I actually only know one other person with a 4k tv.

Already have Wolf Man in HD. Lot of duplication on these sets. Not sure if Werewolf of London and She-Wolf of London are even worth the $15 to upgrade. Will probably pick up the Frankenstein set though...wish it were $15!

Has played every disc I've put in it so far. You do have to change region code for blu-rays. So for less than $100 you get this and Napoleon.

Even though I have the Blu-ray, I was curious so I watched some of it on my 65 inch HDTV. Looked pretty darn good! Maybe not Blu-ray quality but still excellent. Sound seemed good too although I have no idea if it was in surround or not.

Re: What's The Last Silent Movie You Watched?

I made the youngsters watch Speedy with me on Fathers Day. My daughter, age 9, and son, age 7, groused and groaned when I put it on but soon got caught up in the film and sat through it until the end. They (and I) particularly enjoyed the Coney Island sequences. While today's rides are certainly fas...
