Re: STAN AND OLLIE trailer

The trailer wasn't as bad as I anticipated, but I don't know that I need to see this movie. Hopefully it will inspire a new generation to check out the real Stan and Ollie films, though. :D

Ah, nuts! I can't believe I missed this one! But they have another showing on September 13th, so I'll have to make sure to catch that. Gotta take advantage of silents on the big screen around here whenever I can. Thanks for the post!

Re: What is the last film you watched? (2018)

I recently watched High Society (1956), to get a little Sinatra fix (since I haven't seen too many of his films). I didn't realize it was a remake of The Philadelphia Story going in, but picked up on it rather quickly. I greatly prefer The Philadelpia Story, but High Society was definitely worth a w...

Re: What's The Last Silent Movie You Watched? [2018]

I watched An Eastern Westerner (1920) last night. It was pretty solid Harold Lloyd fare, and it was nice seeing a silent once again.

Now I need to figure out what to watch next!

Since it's released in the US on Cohen's own label, that is doubtful.
That's what I was afraid of. Thanks, though!

Re: Gallery of Mastheads

The Great Man looks like the mustached-version of Gene Hackman to me. :) I wonder what Fields would have thought of Myrna Loy? I have seen a couple of his films (The Fatal Glass of Beer and Never Give a Sucker an Even Break), and I have a couple more lounging on the ol' DVR. I'll watch one of them i...

Re: 10th Annual Watch That Movie Night is January 26!

Things went a little sideways with my plan, but I ended up watching a movie with my wife, instead of watching it solo. Unfortunately I couldn’t talk her into watching anything in black and white, much less silent. It ended up being a really foggy day, so we watched John Carpenter’s The Fog (1980). I...

Re: 10th Annual Watch That Movie Night is January 26!

I'm definitely going to participate, although I haven't nailed down a specific film yet. At this point I'm leaning towards one of the following: Wings The Dawn Patrol The Long, Hot Summer So it will probably be one of those, unless TCM drops something interesting before then, or I dig up another gem...

I need to remember to order this! On the other hand, if you order it right now, you don't need to remember any more! (It's pretty painless, especially if you have a Paypal account.) Yeah, everything fun is blocked here at work, so this will be my reminder to order it tonight or tomorrow from home. :D

Re: What is the last film you watched? (2017)

Since Halloween is just around the corner, I watched As Above, So Below (2014) and Interview with the Vampire (1994). I really enjoyed As Above, So Below, although things kind of fall apart near the end. I especially enjoyed my wife hiding under the covers for most of the movie. I didn't enjoy Inter...

When I am searching for the classic titles, I try to include the year (if known), and that usually speeds up the searches.

I recently watched the new blu of The Lost World (1925) and caught A Streetcar Named Desire from TCM via the ol' DVR. I loved the Lost World, but the story of Streetcar failed to capture my attention. It was beautifully shot, and well acted (of course!), but nothing really happened that piqued my in...
