Re: Blackhawk Films catalogs now online

This is truly wonderful! Thank you all for the herculean effort. I hope the same can be done for Film Classic Exchange in LA whose proprietor Charles Tarbox offered some extraordinarily rare titles from his own negatives. Wonderful, wonderful memories...thanks for posting this ! Slightly off topic.....

HOORAY! Best news of the year. A big thank you to all involved. But, regarding the extras, no original trailer? (I am not one of the original whiners).

Re: The Greatest Popcorn Breaks In Film History

Great subject! Back in the late 70's, before the film was available on home video, the Beverly Theatre in Los Angeles held a one-time screening of MONTEREY POP in 35mm and 4-track magnetic sound, which I excitedly attended. If it didn't quite sell out it was certainly close to it, and several famous...

Re: LONG AWAITED "KING OF JAZZ" RESTORATION BEGINS IN 2012

Greetings All. I have never seen the movie KOJ, only heard about it since the 1970s, and am looking forward to seeing it sometime in the near future if it is made available to the home video market on DVD or Blu-Ray. Hopefully Universal or Criterion will make it available, as they did last year wit...

Re: Walking Away (1928)

The title of this is actually WALKING BACK. I had an 8mm print of it back in the pleistocene era but don't remember a damn thing about it except that Sue Carol was really cute.

I also subscribed but only after issue # 1 had sold out. I did receive issues 2,3, & 4, but no #5 (did ANYONE get issue #5???). It's sad when an admirable venture like this leaves its subscribers without a care. How very disappointing. Interestingly,if anyone is still interested, issues 1 (a second ...

Re: Win The House of Mystery from Flicker Alley!

My "favorite" European silent - one that had a profound impact on me as a very young teenager and opened my eyes to collectible 8mm wonders other than Chaplin, Keaton, Griffith et.al. - would have to be MENILMONTANT. It made many contemporary American silents look pretty primitive to me.

Re: Lizabeth Scott Dead at Ninety-Two

My sister-in-law lives just around the corner from Ms. Scott, and told me that occasionally she would venture outside. They had spoken a couple of times, but only briefly as Ms. Scott seemed quite shy. My SIL said she was still quite beautiful. 2 or 3 years ago I gave my SIL a lobby card for TOO LAT...

Re: DVD release annc - The Marcel Perez Collection

Received my set today. The booklet (more like a mini-book) is a thing of true beauty, literate and scholarly, and the pictures are wonderful. The disc looks splendid; in the first short alone, I found an unexpected contemporary comic style in much of Mr. Perez' motion and reaction that surprised me,...

Re: Vampyr (32)

I am surprised that the English language version is regarded as lost as it does mostly exist as The Castle of Doom, which survives in dreadful 8mm form. Its available on the archive.org website. In the 1960's Charles Tarbox's Film Classic Exchange offered 16mm sound prints, as well as 8mm, of CASTL...

Re: Scenes With Erased Dialogue

In every print I have seen of the WC Fields short THE DENTIST, after Fields throws his golf clubs and caddy into the lake and walks off screen, he utters "You can take this course and..." in disgust. The censors blooped "...shove it", also in disgust. Has anyone actually heard the missing two words ...
