Re: COPYRIGHT LAW

The 1923 releases have been slated to go into public domain this coming January 1st. I have not heard any credible attempts to extend the copyright at this point... So I'm hopeful it will not be extended. Given that time line is only a little more than two months away, I would think someone would ha...

Re: new DVD - restored 1913 Kinetophone shorts

Thanks Ben.
I picked up my copy yesterday at Capitolfest. I can't wait to watch it. Thanks for sending them.

Also, I think they sold out pretty quickly. Glad I got mine in time.

Re: Lodgings at Capitolfest?

I stayed at the Quality Inn. I was there when I first came because I was being dropped off by family who were going elsewhere on the trip and I needed something I could stay and get there by foot. I found the Quality Inn not to be nice place to stay. After two years Capitolfest of lodging there I sw...

Re: Looking for help on a silent film topic - again

Harold Lloyd in 1919" Ring up the Curtain". Not only does Harold very uncharacteristically not get the girl in the end, but his character is so distraught that he turns on the gas and sticks his head in the oven. The audience is left to wonder whether or not his character survives. He not only attem...

Re: THE HOME MAKER (1925)

I have a reprint of a Lobby card for that film. I always wondered if I ever get to see it. I also believe that is the film mentioned in the book Cheaper by the Dozen (the original book by the Galbraith siblings). There is a section that mentioned them all going out to a movie, and I believe that is ...

Re: Win Doug Fairbanks in The Half-Breed from Kino Lorber!

"Manhattan Madness" holds a special place in my heart. I had seen a lot of Douglas Fairbanks swashbuckler movies, but I believe that's the first one of his ISO from the teens or he's the young go-getter. I believe I saw it at Slapsticon several years ago. I miss that festival. I love the way it weav...

125 Harold Lloyd

A very 125th Happy Birthday to one of my all-time favorites ( if you didn't know that, please glance to the left side if the screen right now). I am happy TCM is honoring him. I do wish they had broken out the rare stiff for the 1 1/4 Century Mark. Some one-reelers would have been nice....they have ...

Is there a surviving copy if it?
Fox silents have a relatively poor survival rate.

If there is a copy still around, wouldn't it be PD in about 2 1/2 years no matter what the current status?

Re: The 4 hour "Greed" coming to TCM (4/15/18)

Checking the TCM schedule for tonight, it only shows "Greed" in a 2 hour, 15 minute slot, with "Solaris" following at 2:15 AM? That's hardly long enough to play the theatrical release which is much longer than two hours. My 'Frontier' Cable Guide has it listed from Midnight till 4:15 AM. Most likel...

Swell. It's just a shame TCM has long since blocked its signal so you can no longer record off the channel so I'll simply lose out and miss this broadcast like I do with 99% of their stuff anymore.... :( No it is not TMC, it is your cable or satellite provider.I have DirecTV, & TCM records onto my ...

First as you can see if you look to the left I'm a big Harold Lloyd fan and I love "Safety Last". Does the "trademark" cover showing of the film, or just still of the image. I heard Suzanne Lloyd also trademarked the boater hat & glasses image.....so if that we're inforcable in ALL forms, it would m...

Re: Atlantic: A Landslide of Classic Art Is About to Enter t

I love" safety last", but it's not a big deal that that's going public domain. Suzanne Lloyd has done a very good job in the past 15 years of getting that seen. It was shown on Turner, has been put out on DVD, and it is a Blu-ray release. As well as the fact that it has shown many times over on Turn...

If Eastman House has a nice print.....do they have the rights? Could they be waiting a few years for the film to roll out if rights issues & into public domain?

In 2022 would the copyright disappear?

How was it? Did it seem like some of the scenes were out of order, or did it look like (hopefully!) that had been fixed?

It almost feels like VonStroheim had this one taken away from him part-way through.. ...and was able to do the story his way with his ( more synical, less romantic) ending in......The Wedding March 5 years later.

Phooey on the international limits. The USA needs to return protection to a maximum of 56 years. Merry-Go-Round - 1923 I had a hard time deciding which movie I was going to watch.
