Re: SHOW OF SHOWS colour footage found in London"

The film really comes to life with the color fragments... which are clearly from 35mm film. Does anyone know if the black and white version of "The Show of Shows" survives in 35mm? The print used by the Warner Archive for the DVD looks so washed out and murky that it seems to be from a 16mm print. I...

Re: Rio Rita (1929)

I've heard a rumor years ago that the print of "Rio Rita" seen of at MOMA is in Miles Kreuger's collection.... and that circulating 16mm prints are derived from that. Have no idea as to its veracity. Since he was involved with the project... seems plausible that he would know.... if he is still arou...

Re: Warner Archive for 2018

Really? I have heard different as it was an original story made especially for Warner Bros and the featured song was expressly written for the picture. But I've also heard excuses for not releasing films in the public domain so no doubt they will come up with whatever excuse because they don't give ...

Re: Warner Archive for 2018

No Silents or Pre-Code films...... again. What a surprise. I'm so excited to see these Joseph Breen approved morality pictures. Meanwhile Technicolor films like "Under A Texas Moon" 1930 and "Leathernecking" 1930, which the Warner Archive has confirmed it has a print of on several occasions a...

Re: A question on Ford's Men Without Women, 1930

It is the Foreign Sound Version aka International Sound Version made for export..... titles would be translated into the appropriate language and spliced in and they could still advertise it as a Sound Film because technically it was. The domestic All Talking version is apparently lost. https://en.w...

Re: Mamba 1930

In all truth, if It wasn't for the fact that "Mamba" was in color it would probably receive as much attention as another Tiffany picture from that year such as "Paradise Island" 1930. The acting is dreadful and the finale is especially laughable especially in it's stereotypical depiction of the Afri...

Re: KING OF JAZZ on DVD or BluRay

Is the surviving Vitaphone soundtrack to the 12 minutes of lost footage included? I was very interested in hearing the lost musical number with Grace Hayes singing "My Lover" and the Specialty number featuring Nell O'Day.... Only about 5 minutes of additional footage was found that differs from the ...

Re: Warner Archive for 2015

Silent films which were never released with a soundtrack do not need any. In fact, I turn the sound off on many silent DVD releases because the music is anachronistic and annoying. You have to wonder if the people associated with these scores have ever actually listened to period recordings. I don't...

Re: Warner Archive for 2015

I haven't paid the slightest attention to their releases. In the last few years they have been releasing films that are easily obtained and have been shown over and over on cable or were released years back on VHS or Laserdisk. I don't even understand why people continue to buy the same old movies i...

The film is now out on DVD: http://networkonair.com/shop/2237-romance-of-seville-a.html" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" Unfortunately, it is a black and white print. Here is a clip from youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URFP85hBqsw Wow! That's quite a lot of footage. Let's hop...
