YT reaches an audience that would NEVER sit down and watch a silent film of TCM.
Kickstarter has certainly contributed a lot to which silents I've seen. Kinda overlap with analog & digital since I'm 37 years old though.

Thrilled to see the reemergence of this film go international. An HD presentation of the film for an Italian audience is definitely a cool get, Ben & Ed.

I enjoyed Kino's release of The Covered Wagon so I can't complain much about what they've done this year.

Everybody says that last time Disney stepped in and made sure that the copyright was stopped in it tracks. Isn't that likely again this time? All signs point to no copyright extension for this year. What a new Congress would do next year or in the near future would be anybody's guess but long copyr...

I'm personally hoping for some "Little Old New York" Kickstarter by somebody on this online forum next year.

Also seeing "Safety Last" joining public domain will be very nice.

Paul Whiteman(1890-1967)

Because of my interest in the public domain, and various copyright laws of different countries, I came across Paul Whiteman when I was searching through 1967 deaths for a list of stuff that goes into public domain in those countries that have copyright terms of "Life of the Author plus 50 years". I suppose I really ought to see King of Jazz one of these days.

Re: The Dam Bursts: War Officially Declared on Classic Film

Perhaps by showing the pictures and letting people see the actuality of the times and then, afterwards, ask questions as to why, is perhaps far better than banning them or put them out of reach. If people's reaction is one of disbelief and horror then it may be of some assistance in seeing that suc...

Re: Patreon Initiative to Preserve Silent Disney Cartoons

Disney has all the money in the world, let them fund this. I have better things to do with my cash. I have a different opinion. As long as its something in the public domain(guaranteed if before January 1, 1923 in the US), from a preservation point of view, it's worth funding so posterity can have ...

Re: Silent Films that were made from obscure classics

A couple months ago, I read the bestselling American book of 1923, Gertrude Atherton's Black Oxen . That was made into a silent film I haven't seen yet but it was one of Clara Bow's firsts. That Atherton novel is quite obscure(I liked the ideas of it but it's not a great novel by any means). Been re...

No all films from 1922 and earlier are public domain in the USA. And 1923 films will be public domain on January 1, 2019, I believe. (With our disfunctional Congress, there is no way that legislation will be passed to change this.) At least some of us hope that Congress leaves things be on that fro...
