Re: FOX FILM RESTORATIONS at MOMA!

If you're talking about the print run at Capitolfest, it was a inferior print. I have a much better copy in 16 and I'm sure there are decent ones in 35 out there but not that one they ran. Hey...I really like the Christmas videos of El Brendel that you have linked on your El Brendel site. Very nice...

Re: FOX FILM RESTORATIONS at MOMA!

Thanks to the both of you for verifying. That was just a bit disturbing for me to see it knocking around in those beat-up old travel cannisters, when it isn't even known to be properly transfered, let alone restored. Well hopefully there is a good copy of it somewhere, in a position where it will ge...

Re: FOX FILM RESTORATIONS at MOMA!

The print had a noticeable hum which hindered my enjoyment of the film. Also, the projectionist was falling asleep as there were problems with the film being in focus. Wow, someone who actually was there to see It! Thanks for the reply. So was the picture quality that much better than the Youtube u...

Re: FOX FILM RESTORATIONS at MOMA!

Just noticed this thread. I too am a bit far away and a little late for this event, but at least now have some new-found hope. The "William Fox" era negatives were destroyed in the infamous 1937 fire. Nevertheless there is now a large quantity of films from that group being restored/already restored...

Thanks for your time! Now I can see Donald's videos, as well as some of the others. :D

Hopefully it is not too hard an issue for them to eventually root and change.

Thanks!

Re: Big Board Software Update

Hi, I'm mostly just a lurker here, but I do enjoy reading the threads on film preservation. Since this is scheduled for maintenance...I just thought I'd mention I haven't been able to see videos on here. All I see is a video-sized block of white space. Sometimes there is a line of text at the bottom...

Re: TCM via cable vs. Filmstruck

I'm in the same camp as some of the first posters. There may be cheaper ways to get movies, but as a Directv subscriber I hold out for the rare and offbeat. Outside of some History channel stuff, and possibly one or two other similar channels occasionally, TCM is really the only TV channel I watch. ...

FREE AND EASY (1930) became EASY GO on TV. The 1931 THE MALTESE FALCON became DANGEROUS FEMALE. I still have a tape of a TCM showing with this title, and it was listed under that title in the old UA16 rental catalog. Warner Home Video restored the original opening title sequence when it was release...

Re: Are Movie Titles...Entitled? (Why Do Film Titles Change?

I wonder what the most used title could be. There seem to be 59 exact title matches for "Dracula", but that includes TV episodes and alternative titles. Apparently "The kiss" is also a good contender. Original titles can sometimes overlap. If you throw AKA titles into that, it can open it up quite ...

I see. Thanks Wingate. I am also in the UK but have never seen it. I wonder if it is ever on US TCM? So sad about Dick Powell. :( Yes. I have an independent project which attempts to track full-length features on US TCM. At the least, The Conqueror was shown in 2015 and a number of times in 2000.

Re: Cataloging your disc collection electronically

IMDb provides some downloadable plain text data here that may be enough for some people, but they only provide "principal" cast and crew, so that's not good enough for me. Many people, including myself, use a programming technique called "web-scraping" to obtain the exact data you see on the IMDb c...

Double, triple, quadruple thanks to all those who have contributed old schedules to my project! It continues to be a work in progress. There is a new dataset on its way which will further clarify some of the already published months. (will still need above months).

Thanks to all!

Another thumbs up for Filemaker. See my signature line. This entire project is all under one hood with an older version (Filemaker Pro Advanced 9 - circa 2005-2007). It also has some help from 360 Works Scriptmaster, a free plug-in to extend functionality (mainly networking and disc operations for m...

Re: Watching poor quality videos using HDMI Input.

There shouldn't really be any big differences in signal quality between the HDMI and the Component (Y, Pb, Pr) inputs [where properly implemented of course]. They are both HD connections. I have newer HD devices which offer these different ways of connectivity, my Directv DVR satellite box and a Hau...

Hmm Just stepping back a bit so I can see the picture. It looks like an Egyptian. Ten Commandments? Charles de Rochefort? (I am only half kidding) But there are what look like business suits in the background. Movie execs? Could it be mislabeled?

Okay back to my usual activities.

Enjoy the responses on this forum. Not at all surprised about him.

The only thing I can add so far is that it seems the other members washed their hands of him rather quickly, as to distance themselves. For the most part. I'll bet the iceberg runs deep. Time will tell.

Re: Digital Theater. A Hoax ??? Just a big TV ???

Apples and oranges. In our theaters they do pre-show commercials on a consumer-cost-affordable-grade projector, and the difference is like night and day when they turn on their consumer-cost-prohibitive-grade projector. Unfortunately smaller theaters go out of business over the price of these ...

As per your last post, the contrast level at the point of digital encoding (regardless of level of digital compression) will dictate the useful contrast which you will be able to get out of the encoded picture/video. You can't get any more information than you put into it.

Yes. Just to be specific for others, the linke...
