Re: Actor ID help: Gold Diggers of '33

Both of these two recently-posted photos look as though Joe's head has been Photoshopped onto someone else's body. I'm not saying that's what happened. I'm saying it looks like the head just isn't the one that originally came with the body. Strange discrepancy there. Jim I just checked the two phot...

Apple is starting up a global streaming service next year. They are dedicating a billion dollars to it.
Perhaps that would be a good "fit" for Criterion and Apple.

Confusing, to me, is this 1930 reference to Kithnou being in Tarzan the Tiger.

My copy's been shipped, due tomorrow.

According to Amazon, the release of Old Ironsides is next week.
In any case, it's not coming from Amazon yet.

I ordered them both some time ago.

Serving an audience isn't pandering. There are programs aimed at old farts, and there are programs aimed at normal people. Everybody gets some of the pie. Even though I'm an old fart, I never really cared for Lawrence Welk or Murder She Wrote, but it's fine those programs exist for the geriatric se...

When I was a kid, it was a long time after werewolf films were in the theaters, but "Shock Theater" hadn't introduced them to TV yet (as far as I know).

So… any mention of "silver bullets" would have been about The Lone Ranger.

I tried a couple of other newspaper archives before finding some hits on LOC's Chronicling America. First hits are for the years 1923-24. For example, Ethel Clayton was supposed to make a film called San Francisco for Grand Asher. Sometimes called Grand-Asher. This link may work for you: https://chr...

Re: ARLISS Alert! THE MILLIONAIRE on TCM Mon 10/15 @ 6:30 PM ET

Reviews on the IMDB say that Cagney got his lead in The Public Enemy because of this film work.

Arliss was the reason for me to watch this, though. It was also great to see Noah Beery as a bad guy, too.

I watched it also. I'd never seen it before. The ad above makes him look like John D. Rockefeller, the role is that of a Henry Ford who's forced to retire… to boredom. But he comes upon a solution, provided by James Cagney. Shennanigans ensues.

Re: October Star of the Month – Cary Grant

During the lecture tour that I mentioned above, Cary surprised the audience by saying that he didn't like doing a farce such as his Arsenic and Old Lace. He didn't think it was his style of comedy. It's very funny regardless of that.

If you want Cary in a comedy, you can't go wrong with His Girl Friday with Rosalind Russell. I related somewhere that I saw him in his last years. He was touring with a documentary of his life. He came out afterwards, sat/leaned on a stool and made a little speech, perhaps answered questions, I don'...
