Re: A Small Request For Info

At the beginning of A Man for All Seasons, we see a letter being written and sealed with wax.
We follow its delivery to Thomas More. He reads it, then throws it in a fireplace.
Not a real closeup of the letter, as far as I can remember.

Joan Bennett and a bird are both prisoners in The Son of Monte Cristo.
She takes the bird from its cage and attempts a kiss at about 51 minutes in:

Just to mention that I did some searching in the newspaper archive, GenealogyBank, and some others.
I found mentions of a live "sketch" of Dorian Gray, but nothing about a film version.

Re: I can't believe they said that ....

This isn't like the dirty bits snuck in above, but I was just watching Man of the World (1931) and it contains the following line about 5 minutes in, when William Powell meets Guy Kibbee at his hotel: KIBBEE: I tried to call you on my cell, but I didn't know where to get hold of you. I can't figure...

My first exposure to silent films was the childrens' show, Uncle Johnny Coons, live in Chicago at noontime. My memory is that we went home for lunch and to watch the show. I don't remember the specific films. http://chicagotelevision.com/johnnycoons.htm Later there was the silent series on PBS hoste...

Withers would survive on screen for a few more features, played by Helen Broderick and ZaSu Pitts (also with Gleason returning), with diminishing returns. IMDb tells me there was a TV movie reviving the character in 1972 with Eve Arden, and a well-chosen James Gregory as Inspector Piper, wouldn't m...

If you have an AMC theater near you, you might want this deal:

See up to 3 movies every week in any format, including IMAX® and Dolby Cinema, for just $19.95/month+tax.
Limited time to sign up…

Thanks for the alert. A friend of mine and I watched it and we both thoroughly enjoyed the story.
Interesting that Dick Powell didn't get to do any singing. I would have added one more scene showing the happy couples, but maybe that's just me.

Yes, there was a discussion of this in another thread. I went looking for stills which showed a presumed meaning for pinky finger rings (was the character gay?) I couldn't make that connection quite fit. Your theories about this notoriously difficult subject makes more sense.

I'm glad that s.w.a.c. found the entire "Flapper Dictionary."
The newspaper I looked at only had part of it, and no indication where/when the rest would be found.

You could try, if you haven't, downloading a subtitle file from one of the subtitle sites, such as: https://subtitleseeker.net/ The files are meant to be accessed along with the video playing, putting it in the same folder as the movie file. BUT, you can also open them with a text editor to look ins...

I know I've seen this ... I feel like TCM played it not all that long ago. Can anyone else confirm, or am I thinking of another film?
I can find any "hits" in a computer search of my TCM listings, which go back pretty far.
