Re: 120 Hz vs 60Hz with silent blurays

You should also note that the 120Hz rate tends to make the picture look less film-like and more like videotape.

Re: Win Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers from Kino Lorber

I’ll be getting a Kickstarter copy, but I just wanted to praise Ida Lupino. As for my favorite of hers, it’s not her best, but I enjoy it greatly: The Trouble With Angels . Bob I liked "The Trouble With Angels" and the sequel "Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows." I don't know why, I went to parochial...

Anyone have luck downloading the 2.3gb mov file? I was able to get the 449mb mp4 just fine, but the host seems to be having a problem with the mov. Perhaps the LoC is getting more traffic with this thing than usual?
All I got was "No video with supported format and MIME type found."

Re: THE LOST WORLD (1925) - new restoration?

Doesn't Blu-ray also support 1080p/30fps? Wouldn't taking 20fps and adding an extra frame for every original two frames be easier? I know it sometimes creates that "video" look.

I still grab old vinyl albums when I see one I know is not on CD. Maybe Video Vortex would like my crapload of VHS tapes taking up valuable space.

"The Thing From Another World" (1951) played on the cold war paranoia of the fifties. The technology and the players may have changed but still plenty of paranoia today. And the possibility of life on others planets seems much more believable.

Deep Discount is offering between 40%-45% off Criterion titles. The discount code "AUTUMN" gets you another 15% off and also applies to almost everything on the site. If you order enough Criterions to get free shipping ($25) it works out to just over 50% off altogether.

There is also THE CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE, which is misleading in that this sequel to THE CAT PEOPLE is really more of a psychological fantasy than a horror movie. I thought that about the original CAT PEOPLE. How about THE BLOB? Sounds fascinating. And MAD MAX. Was he angry mad or insane mad? Turn...
