Re: They Shall Not Grow Old

And why add color? Ken Burns doesn't, he leaves the footage as is. Pandering to young people and don't like black and white? The next thing you know we're back to Ted Turner colorizing classic movies. Documentaries are an interesting case. On the one hand, the usual "artistic vision" argument doesn...

There are two performances, 10/6 and 10/7, but 10/7 is sold out. If anyone exchanges a 10/7 ticket for a 10/6 ticket the 10/7 performance will reappear but probably only briefly.

You know, when I toured the Castle many, many years ago, Marion Davies was not even MENTIONED. You're aware, I hope, that Citizen Kane screened at the castle theater a while back. At $1000 a seat. https://www.mercurynews.com/2015/03/13/citizen-kane-at-hearst-castle-films-first-screening-in-tycoons-...

Think of it as "constrained art." Anyone can make a great movie, but how many people can make a great movie that grosses $100 million domestic? :D

Last night I watched Ozu's THAT NIGHT'S WIFE (1930), a silent which featured posters fror at least two talkies [...] Anything else like that??? I remember movie posters in Ozu's Dragnet Girl (1933), and IMDB says that Dragnet Girl has posters for All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) and The Champ ...

Looks to me as if the source lists Manhandled and Stagestruck as "Also coming in 2018 - in alphabetical order:" not as coming on 2/27. Still, good news.

Whatever the movie was, it was as the Fox Fremont in San Luis Obispo, CA. The kids summer series was a (bad) movie every week for 10 weeks. Cost $5.00. The earliest I remember was "The Amazing Colossal Man." The earliest not in that series might have been "Mary Poppins." The Fremont is still there,...

Do you have a screenshot of the title? It's something like דעם כאבעפם כאט אויי אן דעם טריין I probably didn't get the letters right. Google translate (from Yiddish) comes up with "This khabefm Haute on without the Train." Since the villains are about to get on a train, I suppose it's not gibberish.

Screen Archives has a bunch of Limited Edition Blu-Ray titles. 3000 pressed, then they are gone unless you want to pay secondary market prices. But I see that one such title that I missed, The Train, is now offered in an "Encore Edition" for somewhat less than the Limited Edition, not to mention the...

Shaun the Sheep: The Movie is essentially a silent film - more so than The Artist. There's virtually no intelligible dialog; the only intelligible words are in songs which are meant to set a mood.
