For those who don't know, the Gish and Fairbanks introductions to the VHS release of The Wind and the PBS telecast of Thief of Bagdad, respectively, can be found on Youtube. Said introductions are most articulate and altogether charming.

I must admit a strong affection for The Mollycoddle amongst his modern comedies.

A great quote from the movie although you must earn the right to understand it. It's funny with this movie it could be taught to today's people that diversity doesn't have to be and feel forced in a movie. This was forgotten after the 80's.

"Manhattan Madness" holds a special place in my heart. I had seen a lot of Douglas Fairbanks swashbuckler movies, but I believe that's the first one of his ISO from the teens or he's the young go-getter. I believe I saw it at Slapsticon several years ago. I miss that festival.
I love the way it weaves the wanting to be out in the wild with the main characters regular life back in the East Coast. It really shows off the spirit of Douglas Fairbanks as far as I'm concerned.

So, " Manhattan Madness" for me.

Well, at first I wondered if Kino wasn’t overestimating the demand for Fairbanks westerns, giving out 3 copies, but we got an amazing 72 entries, so I guess people like Doug, even in cowboy clothes. The Random Number Generator did its thing, and the winners are…

Mitch Farish

Oldposterho

and fittingly… Gaucho

I’ll contact you to get info for sending out your prizes. In the meantime, I tabulated up the most popular Fairbanks titles, and there are a lot of choices, though one very clear winner. Here’s my count (I gave half points if anybody seemed torn between two titles):

The Thief of Bagdad (22 votes)
The Mark of Zorro (10.5)
The Black Pirate (6.5)
The Gaucho (5.5)
The Iron Mask (5)
The Mystery of the Leaping Fish (3.5)
Wild and Woolly (3)
Robin Hood (2.5)
When the Clouds Roll By (2)
The Nut (1.5)
One vote each: A Modern Musketeer, Character Studies, His Majesty the American, The Three Musketeers, American Aristocracy, His Picture in the Papers, The Mollycoddle, The Taming of the Shrew, Manhattan Madness

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW(1929). I have the Laserdisc which is this:

After many years out of circulation, the film was re-released in 1966 in a new cut supervised by Pickford herself. New sound effects and music were added throughout, much of the voice dubbing was enhanced with newly available technology, and seven minutes were cut from the initial print. This re-released version is the only version now available on DVD or VHS.

COQUETTE(1929):

Complete prints of the film still exist. In the 1990s it was restored by the Library of Congress and The Mary Pickford Institute. Coquette was released on home video in the 1990s. Pickford's estate no longer owns the rights as another studio bought the film for a never-made remake.

I have never seen this one.

Obviously the Russian hackers got to Mike. Otherwise I would have won easily. Where's Mueller?!

Oh, it's a tough sit. It was a stage vehicle for Helen Hayes, a very dated Southern belle melodrama, and Pickford does a very stagy Helen Hayes imitation throughout.

Yes, it's a tough sit. I've tried, twice. I'm a huge fan of Pickford's work and this is her only film I haven't been able to get through.
