High School Band

Unread post by Brock Davis » Mon Oct 16, 2017 5:29 pm

So, I just got back from my son's 7th and 8th grade band performance, and I kept thinking that the way to really liven up the show would be to have them perform to a silent short. I would like to mention this to the band teacher who also teaches the high school band, but I assume she will have little to no interest unless you can purchase scores that a small band could perform. Does anyone sell music that is composed for specific films? I have quite a few silents on 16mm and would love to show one that would really impress an audience like One Week.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that Nitratevillain Ben Model has composed music that a high school band can play for silent short comedies.

I have concert band scores for Cops, The Adventurer and The Immigrant. They will synch with your 16mm, and have been played by high school wind ensembles. Info is here.

I've got several scores to silent film comedies that would work, but they really need strings as well as brass and woodwinds. I find that school band and orchestra teachers don't always collaborate well, which seems odd. But feel free to offer such a score if you like. Mont Alto's score for One Week works really well, since although I use period music, I avoided parts that use trumpet/cornet in A.
