HUGE COLLECTION OF SILENT CUE SHEETS ACQUIRED

Unread post by vitaphone » Sun Jul 26, 2009 6:29 am

Hi All,

Th Vitaphone Project was contacted last year by a collector who had a large number of late-silent music cue sheets. After a year of negotiations, they were acquired by Vince Giordano, leader of The Nighthawks --- certainly the best person on the planet to have them.

It would be nice to one day see some of these films shown again with these accompaniments. Vince has done a superb job in AUTHENTICALLY (very un-Alloy-esque) scoring THE CAMERAMAN, GET OUT AND GET UNDER, DOUBLE WHOOPEE, SHERLOCK, JR. and other silents.

Anyway, here's the list of the music cue sheets Vince acquired. Comments?

Ron.

A good list of cue sheets. Unfortunately, most of them are MGM films, which means a bulk of them are by Ernst Luz, whose musical selections varied wildly from middle-of-the-road to very poor. Often it seemed that he was more interested in promoting his own publishing company, Photoplay Music Inc.

However, others by folks like James Bradford, Eugene Conte and Leo Forbstein are quite interesting.

 Yes, very impressive. Would love to hear some of these too. Any word on if Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks will still be scoring SYNTHETIC SIN, or anything else? They need to be hired much more often. Sheet music for LILAC TIME too. That's great as well.

Still waiting to hear the original Main-titles to THE BIG PARADE, and WINGS. BEAU GESTE too. I notice there are a few lost movies in the group. :D
